My husband is working and could take time off but we hadn't planned on this. However now that I've been told I have a 1/35 chance that the baby has Downs I feel more nervous about the 20 week scan (it's in a couple of days). I'm wondering if I should ask him to come with me. First pregnancy I did it alone and everything was fine. Hospital is quite far away and he might have to miss the entire day of work.

He needs to be with you.

I hope all goes well but there are loads of possible outcomes at the scan and if it is a happy occasion, as it usually is, then it will be nice that he has shared it. If anything is wrong you will need support, please ask him to join you. Sometimes you just have to make a demand like this, it really is important and the baby is his too. Give yourself a break, you don't have to be strong all the time.

He really should go. It's unlikely but possible the scan could pick up on problems which go hand in hand with Down's syndrome so especially with a 1 in 35 chance he should go.

He needs to go especially with the odds.

OK thanks everyone. He won't mind coming with me and I think that's how it should be. You've helped me a lot, thanks!!

My OH couldn't get time off so I took my dad with me just incase.

Also it will be good to have a second set if ears in case if a problem. We got back news at our 20 week scan, and I was so glad DH was there so we could discuss it after and make sure we heard the same things. Plus it meant I didn't have to be the one to tell him.

Definitely take him I got told ds3 possibly had a heart defect (he didn't in the end) and it was horrible being on my own and I had to drive home upset, good luck for the scan.

Yes I think he should be there. I had a very high risk (1:10) and can't imagine having gone on my own.

I had an amnio so knew that this wasn't something that ds had, but even so when dh would have struggled to get the time off due to the other time off he'd had I took my mum.

Good luck for your scan I hope it all goes well.
