Can I ice skate at 19 weeks?

I booked a ticket for a Christmas ice-skate at Somerset House in London during my first trimester. I didn't think I'd feel nervous about it as I'm a good, confident skater. Now that I'm in my second trimester I'm surprised at how much more fragile I feel, and I'm wondering if it's too risky.

I'll be 19 weeks by the skating day. The ticket is for an hour and the rinks are usually crowded so people generally skate around slowly.

I think it's unlikely I'd fall over myself, but I'm worrying about someone else knocking me over, and whether my balance would be poor due to my bump.

What do you think? Has anyone else been skating in their second trimester? Can anyone advise how significant falling onto your stomach would be at this stage?

I skied at 13 weeks and was not worriesd about falling as much as the risk of someone crashing into me, not really within my control. For this reason I didn't enjoy.

Don't do it. I say this as someone who skied at 8w last pg.

i know your thoughts are on safety of baby (which is huge consideration at 19w - there is a def risk of something bad happening if you do fall or someone crashes into you).

Also think about hormonal changes in your body mean you need to be really careful about exercise & injury. If if realised this I wouldn't have skied.

Joints get really flexible in pregnancy & you might find if you did fall that you'd do yourself more injury than usual. I suffer from SPD. I really hope that fall when skiing didn't start it off but I will never know. I've been in agony for 2 pregnancies now. I wish I'd been more careful at the gym when pg with dc1 too. I've learned you can't do as much as you could pre-pregnancy. Some people are lucky. I wasn't.

I wouldn't do it. I think there's too much of a risk. I'm 18 weeks and have avoided any potentially dangerous sports since finding out. I've also done all of my Christmas shopping already, so that I don't get whacked and crushed in the Christmas rush!

No way would i chance it. I wouldnt be concerned about falling, i'd be concerned about the carnage of the teenagers and young kids. Whatever about shopping in Primark, you're just increasing the risk by going on an ice skating rink. Same reason why i'm not going skiing this yr for the first time in 10 yrs (SIGH!)

I'm also 19 weeks and am sad to be be missing out on the annual Christmas ritual too :( Even as a good skater you may still get knocked over if it's busy, and while that may not be too serious there's every chance of someone running into you while you're down and sticking their boot into your stomach. I don't think the skating itself is a hazard but busy rinks full of amateur skaters are.
