Failed newborn hearing test

Hi I know this is the wrong place but not sure where to post. I had my little boy on Thursday at 36 weeks after a very quick and unexpected natural labour. He's not been feeding well and is jaundiced- I can cope with this, but now he's failed his hearing test in both ears. I am devastated.

They said it could just be fluid, and he did seem to flinch when something banged yesterday, but I've tried making loud noises around him today and nothing from him at all. Does anyone have any experience? Is there much hope of this being fluid rather than deafness?

3 of mine have failed their newborn hearing test. Retested at 5-7 days and all was well. Hoping it's the same for you Thanks

Both mine failed the first time round in at least one ear. Passed several days later and no hearing issues at all. I think it is very common. Try not to worry too much.

My dd failed her newborn hearing test too. They had to refer her to the audiologist at the hospital and it was all clear there.

Yes mine all failed theres. Few days later passed. It's all the mucous in there ears etc.

Thank you all for replying with positive stories, glad you all had a good outcome. They repeated today as they were aware how upset I was and he passed in both ears- relieved is not the word! I've had so little sleep I think I was over reacting and getting worked up, so thank you for all helping to calm me down. Now to get us both discharged and I will be thrilled!

DD1 failed hers. I was told this is quite normal as they get fluid in their ears etc.

She was retested a few days later and passed.

Both my DDs had to be retested at 1 year and 2 years because I am HP and it can be genetic (it's not in my case but they need to check) but they are 6 and 2 and both have fine hearing.

Sorry, I missed your last post! Glad his hearing is fine.

Congratulations on your little boy Thanks.

I had my son at 36+2 and was also very quick! He failed the hearing test twice and it was because his ears were just so small they could measure properly with the machine. So don't worry am sure baby is fine

Congratulations

Yes failed first and passed the second.

Also got a call back for heel prick test which terrified me. Apparently jaundice can affect the results (just in case you get a callback and worry). All was fine,
