i would like to know how likely it is that the following will revert back to normal and how soon:-
1)belly button looking like pigs nose
2)frankenstein line from chest to nethers
3)completely spherical head due to weight gain (am told that this is a difficult place to loose weight from)
4)nipples and surrounding areas the size of side plates and stange dark purple colour.

honesty would be appreciated!!

  1. straightaway
  2. approx 4 weeks
  3. eh?!!
  4. If breastfeeding ages

tbh your body doesn't return to normal for at least 6 months to a year.... if ever!!

janeggybee · 14/07/2006 14:52

my face has taken on a rather round appearance and i also have slight double chin. i was told that the face is difficult to loose weight from.
good info, just wish you could have said straight away to all of them!!

1 - pretty quickly
2 - soon ish
3 - Bet it's water retention not weight gain! I had this too, didn't notice until I saw photo's of myself pregnant...looked like a seal! If so, will go in week or 3
4 - not sure as mine didn't change that much!

11 months on and I am left with stretchmarks (fading) and a wobbly tummy...

janeggybee · 14/07/2006 15:10

have been quite lucky as have no s/marks and am 36 weeks (i know, plenty of time left!!)
hoping bely will be ok as have not put on much blubber in this area, its quite tight and "all baby". you never know what the future holds tho'

hmmm....my wobbly belly is down to the stretching of having a baby in there rather than weight gain...didn't gain muhh at all, was all water retention and baby....

janeggybee · 14/07/2006 15:16

have wondered wether skin can shrink back down to pre-preggers tone. i can see that it can stretch but wonder if it can go the other way. was told not to loose weight too quickly as this can cause s/marks . should be viewing these permanent changes as signs of motherhood and should be proud that my body is capable of all of this

Just noticed that you haven't given birth yet. I know it's hard, but try not to think about it. A friend of mine told me during my first pregnancy, it takes 9 months to put it on and 9 months to take it off. Of course, that varies a bit from person to person, but it really helps put it in perspective. Also, those articles that tell you to bring maternity clothes to the hospital as "you will still look about 6 months pg afterwards" don't mention that it is not the tight belly that is full of baby 6 months, but rather a more loose saggy, just emptied belly. I wish I had had a more realistic view, as it was a bit of a shock for me, but it does start to tighten back up fairly quickly.

Anyway, you'll be too busy with your new little one to think about it that much

JessaJam · 14/07/2006 15:24

have to say, having 6-9lb of baby in your tummy one minute and out of it the next (well, sort of!) is probably THE fastest weight loss ever!!

It does un-stretch...some people have no problems at all...but you will probably (definitely?)have a swollen-looking tummy for a while after birth (I wore my maternity jeans for a good month or two afterwards!)

janeggybee · 14/07/2006 15:26

not liking the idea of maternity clothes when i am not pregnant anymore!! i wonder if massage helps the skin to recover......
would like to keep the boobs tho' as i have never been this big!! i am finally a good b-cup (thought i would be bigger by this stage...).

I hope my stretch marks start to go invisable after having baby!! they are in place that i can cover up, but i didnt want stretch marks lol! as for loosing weight ive banned my partner from going on a diet until after the baby is here, just so i can diet with him!! he wasnt too happy with that!

jabberwocky · 14/07/2006 16:04

The thing about maternity clothes is, you'll wear them on the way up and on the way down, lol. Some people go back to pre-baby size remarkably fast, my secretary only took a couple of months, if that much. I took about 6 months. I have to say I didn't really work at it, so theoretically I may could have done it faster. Having a new baby just took all my energy, though.

LaDiDaDi · 14/07/2006 16:07

hmm dd is nearly 10 weeks and i am the same size and weight as i was prepregnancy but the consistency is definitely more jelly belly than toned abs. i have started situps this week .

yomellamoHelly · 14/07/2006 16:24

Took 9 months to get back to normal. (Never had line though). Went to gym 3 times a week once ds 6 weeks and had a review after 3 months where all I wanted to know was when wwould it go, to be told that she'd taken 2 years so I wasn't doing too badly! Once it did start to go though everything literally snapped back into place over 2 weeks (v strange) and a lot of friends commented on it.
Nipps though stayed changed.

seemingly, you never know your luck in a raffle. seems belly buttons recover (for those who were affected) . i thought the linea nigra was a given for all but apparently not. bowling ball head may recover but, as yet, undetermined it would be strange if my boobs went back to pre-pregnancy size but nips and areolas stayed the same. at a former modest a-cup my boobs would just look like digestive biscuits on my chest !!!!!

ok, i'm not gloating girls so don't jump on me, just wanted to give a positive account.... my tummmy went down remarkably quickly... looked a tad wobbly for a couple of days but i was back in pre-preg pants (some not all!) in a few days and my tummy was flat enough to wear tops that didn't quite hit my jeans (laziness regarding washing, not trying to be brittany!) within a few days too.

topside was differant a bf so never really went back to normal (preg with no.2 while bf) but without doing any excercise my body took care of itself for the most part.
