Sick leave - does it count?

As far as I know sick leave due to pregnancy doesn't count towards my sick leave record - is this correct?

Because I've been at my job for less than two years I get up to 8wks in any 52 on full pay and then 8wks on half pay. I've probably had about three off so far due to morning sickness. Does anyone know how I can find out if my pregnancy-related illness counts towards the 8wks? I'm showing no signs of being any better and I'm getting worried now that I'll go over it and go on to half pay which I can't afford to do Sad (Not that I'll have much option as there's no way I can go in feeling like this anyway!)

I think you need to ask HR- not sure why it would be exempt if company are paying more than they legally have to but you may be lucky.

It doesn't count in terms of being held against you I.e. thry can't follow normal absence policy and discipline etc but it does count in terms of pay as far as I know

I am the same. ..been off for 3 weeks and think it will end up being a lot more due to how awful I feel. Give your hr department a call and ask them what the procedure is as you are concerned.

Pregnancy related sick leave can't count for disciplinary purposes, but there's no reason (legally) why it should be extra paid leave.

You'll have to ask your HR department about what their policy is - you are already getting very generous paid sick leave.

Afaik it does count with regards to pay . They pregnancy sick leave rules are regarding disciplinary . So you can't be disciplined or sacked or anything for being sick while pregnant and they don't count if you are applying for other jobs , you employer can't say in a reference . But I don't think they have to pay you . Sorry probably not what you wanted to hearSad

No, it's fine, that's what I thought. Will just have to keep a close eye on it to prepare myself for if I have a drop in pay!

I'm currently off sick and by the time I'm considered 'Fit to Work' (based on my current sick note) I will have been off for about 16 weeks in total Hmm Thankfully my pay hasn't been affected. My biggest worry was that I could be forced to take Maternity Leave early but thankfully that rumour turned out to be untrue Smile

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope you feel better soon Thanks
