How early did your heartburn start?

The worst thing about being pregnant for me was the horrendous heartburn which started at 3.30 each day until bedtime - like clockwork.

It went the day after DS was born. But worried as it has come back - 3.30 on the dot. If I am pregnant this is not great timing, DS is 9 weeks old!

How early did your heartburn start, if you suffered from it?

With DS1 about 20 weeks. With a pg that I lost(mc), by about 5 weeks. With DS2 about 6 weeks.

7 weeks really badly with this baby. Never had it with my five other pregnancies.

Did you eat anything that might have triggered it recently?

waceystills · 25/11/2013 19:38

Oh shit bollocks. Was hoping some one would say way too early for heartburn! Thanks Bonzo (I think Smile)

Can't think of anything Crispy. Never had heartburn until I was pregnant. Had it for 3 days now. Bit scared to do a test.

I was reading a bf thread about how long people bf for and it became quite apparent it is a lot easier to conceive when bf than I thought.

11 weeks for me...obviously thought I was dying - so sudden an unexpected was its arrival. At 14 weeks I got the "good stuff" a 500ml bottle of Gaviscon Advance on prescription. It's magical what one teaspoon of minty goo can do.

I just couldn't believe no one had ever mentioned heartburn as a pregnancy side effect. Now I realise in spite of loads of friends having had babies , the heartburn isn't the only thing they don't tell you. There was the time I sneezed and some wee came out.... I personally think its a conspiracy to "protect" non parents....

waceystills · 26/11/2013 09:48

Wee is still coming out when I sneeze Grin

About 8 weeks for me. Went out for a lovely Italian meal 3 course and paid for it for the rest of the day with crippling heart burn I, 20 weeks now and I'd say last 3 weeks it's got much worse.

My sickness has only just pasted about 3 weeks ago and heart burn and a trapped nerve in my bum have replaced it lol.

Oh the joys of pregnancy

SweetPea86 · 26/11/2013 09:59

Past not pasted bloody I pad

SweetPea86 · 26/11/2013 10:00

Also I find fruit gives me the worse type if heart burn trying to eat healthy and I have to suffer oranges and apples make me suffer lol

waceystills · 26/11/2013 11:19

Trapped nerve in your bum sounds nasty Sweetpea, aren't we lucky ladies?

Quite right about the joys of pregnancy. Didn't have morning sickness though so could have been far worse.

I didn't get heartburn with DS until 3rd trimester but sorry to say it was my first symptom this time round at about 5 weeks and was what prompted me to test. I think you need to POAS!

Charotte31 · 26/11/2013 15:51

About 8 weeks with my DD!

waceystills · 26/11/2013 16:20

Keep putting off POAS. Come back today again

About 8 weeks... The progesterone affects the valve at the top of your stomach so not necessarily only a late pregnancy symptom.

Yeah OP BF not a reliable contraceptive...you need to POAS.

AuditAngel · 29/11/2013 23:30

I had heartburn with DS from before I knew I was pregnant!

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 30/11/2013 01:45

Mone started early too, It was so bad I lost my voice as the acid burnt my throat, I got omeprazole from the gp and it was fab.

ClearlyMoo · 28/12/2013 23:21

Waaaaaaaa. Heartburn is REALLY bad tonight. Like a heart attack. Ok not that bad probably but you know what I mean. Clearly it's because we had cheap pepperoni on pizza for tea. Stupid stupid stupid.

Writerwannabe83 · 28/12/2013 23:26

I didn't actually get it for the first time until I was about 24 weeks. It was agonising though and had to make a dash to a 24 hour Tesco just before midnight in order to get some Gaviscon. I'm now 27 weeks and have probably only had it another two times, but nowhere near as bad as that first occasion. I just have some of my Gaviscon tablets as soon as I feel it starting up and it nips it in the bud pretty quickly.

greentshirt · 29/12/2013 00:09

I have it pretty much constantly now at 25 weeks, but its worse in the evenings. Im going to ask for some of the good gaviscon on monday, if nothing else at least its free on prescription, its costing me a bomb at the moment!

Wonder if the OP ever did POAS?!

ClearlyMoo · 29/12/2013 06:26

greentshirt oh oh you haven't asked for the good stuff yet? I got my 500ml bottle at 14 weeks. I took too much last night - 6 teaspoons. I was desperate, it actually felt like proper heart attacky (as if I would know) heartburn. Might ask GP what effects of too much are. I've heard of people "drinking it out of the bottle" but that might just be an urban myth, and one does have to be careful when taking medicine serious face

smilesallround247 · 29/12/2013 07:39

my heartburn started from day one! ! only the past few days has it gotten pretty bad. I hate the taste of gaviscon (spelling?) so im using Tums and its been alright since!
I find that eating cereal and milky tea help as well. Also being propped up in bed with lots of pillows can help.

spacegirl81 · 29/12/2013 07:49

love hearts! they help with heartburn Smile

EeyoreIsh · 29/12/2013 08:10

Do love hearts really help? I love them Grin

I didn't get heartburn until about 15 weeks, and it was only occasional. Now at 35 weeks I get acid reflux pretty much constantly. I am forever eating rennies (I have just one left today, argh). No heartburn though, just the acid.

spacegirl81 · 29/12/2013 21:54

they worked for me!!! Smile
