38+1, SPD...sweep today, induction Friday...experiences of either?

So I'm 38+1 and had a consultant appointment today. On crutches at the mo a lot of the time due to SPD, and the consultant offered me a sweep when she saw the pain I was in trying to get onto the examination table for a scan. I agreed, and the sweep took place. I'm almost 2cm dilated and baby's head is fully engaged...my cervix was also "favourable" and 1-2cm long.

After the sweep she said that they could book me in for an induction on Friday if the bambino doesn't arrive before then, to which I've agreed.

I'm now bricking it! More because its my first baby and I'm already petrified about the labour, and I just wondered what other people's experiences of sweeps (did they work...if so how long did it take) and inductions were?

Many thanks!

Sweeps have never worked for me but I was not favourable, it's a very good sign that your already dilated and it's your first baby, I was induced with my first and it was fine, it took quite a long time to get started 2 pessaries about 6hr in total till contractions stared properly I only got to 5cm and baby was in distress so ended up with c section, but everyone is different with you being already dilated it could be much faster and hopefully not end like mine did,
Fingers crossed your sweep works and if not gl for fridaySmile

I had 2 sweeps. 1st did mothing much. Had cramping almost immediately after the second (4 days later) and some spotting. Labour started that evening and DD arrived the next day. 11 days late and the day before I was due to be induced.

Focus on the outcome rathet than how you get there. Good luck Smile

I had a sweep at 40w and 8 hours later my waters broke. I then ended up being induced 24 hours after that something to do with infection possibly setting in. I actually ended up then having a c section another 24 hours later cos of failure to progress. I think the point I'm trying to make is that anything can happen! I made it clear from the minute they induced that I would be having an epidural as I heard the induction almost lands you in the middle of all the pain with no build up. And it was all fine. The mid wives did as I asked and even though it wasn't as I planned it was still a lovely experience. Good luck OP!

Thanks all! I'm so nervous, and will definitely be asking for an epidural, as I am already anxious about the pain (wimp!). It is starting to seem very real now, and although I'm super excited, I'm also worried about lots too, will I be a good mum? Will he be ok, etc.

Just going to try to stay calm as much as I can...going to put the xmas tree up today I think! X
