Decaf tea just doesn't cut it does it

You know how you get that ahhhhhhh feeling with your first sip of a much needed brew? Since getting my BFP I've switched to decaf (typhoo) and it doesn't quite feel the same.
Can anyone share any decaf brands which have the caffeinated effect?

decaf is the work of the devil. I drank one cup and decided I would just have 2/3 cups of proper tea a day instead of my usual 5/6 because I can't drink decaff.

I have however discovered a love for peppermint tea and I actually prefer it to ordinary tea some days. Perhaps give that a try?

I lived on this tea while I was pregnant.

Thank you I'll give them a try. May still have to have at least one strong Yorkshire Tea to get me going in the morning!

For the first 8 weeks or so of my pregnancy I drank about 7 cups of (caffeinated) tea. Then I went off it altogether and didn't drink any more until I'd had dd. I think the caffeine evened itself out throughout the whole pregnancy.

And yes, decaf tea is vile. I tried fruit teas.......they're disappointing too.

Mumof3xx · 24/11/2013 12:22

Yorkshire do a decaf!

I survived on it during pg

PontyPants · 24/11/2013 12:22

Red bush tea works for me but also I didn't give up caffeine completely
just cut down a fair amount.

teaandkittens · 24/11/2013 12:25

Decaf Yorkshire Tea is bearable. Nicer than standard Typhoo anyway (the tea in my office)

Eminybob · 24/11/2013 12:26

Mumof3 does it taste like the real thing though? The typhoo version tastes like dish water no mater I strong I try and brew it

X post kittens I'll try the Yorkshire. To be fair I did send DP out for the tea and he doesn't drink it if it were me I wouldn't have gone for the typhoo as I don't like the caffeine version either.

Will one cup of tea in the morning really do any harm? I'd just stick to normal tea for your first one, decaf if you need any others during the day.

Or try some herbal teas, peppermint is lovely after a meal. Chamomile is perfect for the evening. When you're further along in your pregnancy you could try raspberry leaf tea, very good for your pregnancy but I think you're only allowed it during the last trimester.

GoingToBedfordshire · 24/11/2013 12:30

This stuff is pretty good.

Eminybob · 24/11/2013 12:34

I've been trying to keep my one cup of caffeinated a day to when someone else offers me a drink as no one knows I'm pregnant yet!

Twinings decaf is nice. Pg tips are also ok. I didn't like yorkshire tea decaf, it was weak.

dizzymac · 24/11/2013 12:40

Marks and Spencer Decaff is good. The best Ive tried so far.

littlemslazybones · 24/11/2013 12:40

The thing is although some decaff teas are drinkable and some can even pass for pleasant, none will come close to that ahhh feeling of a proper cup of tea.

I have 1 and sometimes 2 proper cups of tea a day and counting the weeks until this baby is born until I can start mainlining it again. I think I have a problem.

Anothermrssmith · 24/11/2013 12:44

I switched to decaf as well because I drink about ten cups a day! Can honestly say I can't tell the difference between 'proper' tetley and the decaf version, and neither does my husband who occasionally gets a cup when I'm too lazy to rummage about for the real stuff.

Decaf coffee on the other hand is vile.

Eminybob · 24/11/2013 12:45

I know littlems that's what is missing! I think I'm actually craving tea though as I'm chain drinking the stuff at the moment. Hence switching to decaf!

I agree Yorkshire decaf is the best of a bad lot . Your right about the oooooow factor. It's just not there with decaf. No satisfaction!

Mumof3xx · 24/11/2013 12:52

I liked the Yorkshire! I finished the box off after dd was born anyway!

SantanaLopez · 24/11/2013 12:52

Oh I missed tea so much, and it made me feel sick, you have my sympathies.

Tea and toast after the birth was actually THE best thing EVER, never mind the baby! Grin

DontCallMeDaughter · 24/11/2013 12:54

Another vote for Yorkshire decaf here too. You are allowed some caffeine during pregnancy so a cup if tea a day is ok... Just not 17. So when I really need a tea, I have a proper one Smile

Lottiedoubtie · 24/11/2013 12:55

I can't tell the difference! I've switched to either tesco own or tetley decaf, both fine.

Writerwannabe83 · 24/11/2013 13:32

I'm on PG Tips Decaf but I was drinking that for a year before getting pregnant anyway so it's just normal for me now. I have had various brands but PG Tips is the only one I like - the box is also quite a pretty colour Grin I honestly can't tell the different between caffeinated and de-caf anyway.

Abbierhodes · 24/11/2013 13:35

I just drank tea. Nothing bad happened.

Casmama · 24/11/2013 13:40

Even the NHS website which is probably pretty conservative says up to 200mg caffeine with a cup of tea being about 75mg. I am limiting to 3 cups of tea and wouldn't even bother with decaf.
