Decaf tea just doesn't cut it does it

You know how you get that ahhhhhhh feeling with your first sip of a much needed brew? Since getting my BFP I've switched to decaf (typhoo) and it doesn't quite feel the same.
Can anyone share any decaf brands which have the caffeinated effect?

Typhoo is too weak, PG tips decaf is good. I've been drinking decaf for 19 years, wouldn't couldn't go back now. Try rooibush for something a bit different.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 24/11/2013 13:53

You're allowed 300mg of caffeine a day, that's equivilent of 3 cans of red bull a day (78mg per can)!

Have your tea.

AnythingNotEverything · 24/11/2013 13:55

I had a cup of proper tea every morning, then decaf PG Tips for the rest of the day.

Asda do a good decaf Earl Grey which I found very refreshing in the early days.

Julietee · 24/11/2013 15:38

Yorkshire Tea decaf and M&S decaf are actually really good. I found Typhoo and PG Tips horrible.

AnnaBanana25 · 24/11/2013 16:51

Ah... The answer for me has been a cup of Real tea in the morning (to get me awake!) Followed by decaf Earl Grey. Excellent, and because of the lemony kick, I can't tell the difference.

ilovepowerhoop · 24/11/2013 17:24

The limit is 200mg, not 300mg:

MadMonkeys · 24/11/2013 18:48

Sainsbury's own decaff is the best. Typhoo is foul Grin

notoneforselfies · 24/11/2013 18:58

Decaf Yorkshire gold is brilliant - can't tell the difference. Decaf pg tips is swamp water.

BunnyLebowski · 24/11/2013 19:01

I hate all this talk about what we're "allowed".

I'm a grown ass woman and I can make my own decisions.

I will carry on drinking my Yorkshire Gold tea throughout this pregnancy.

I'll also probably eat rare steak and runny eggs like I did last time.

It's about common sense for me, not living my life based on OTT rules from the NHS website.

Eminybob · 24/11/2013 19:11

Bunny I agree but my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage and I know that it is unlikely it was anything I ate or drank or did or didn't do but I am taking ZERO chances this time Sad

General consensus seems to be Yorkshire so I'm going with that as I usually drink their caffeinated version and love a good strong cuppa. I'm going to try some of the herbal suggestions too to mix it up a bit. Cheers for the (pg) tips! Brew

I completely understand Eminy. Sorry for your loss Thanks .

Tea is one of my only treats now (I'm only 5 weeks pg) and there's no way I can face the next 8 months on pondwater decaff!

Eminybob · 24/11/2013 19:21

Thanks bunny and congrats on your pregnancy x

Another vote here for Redbush.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 25/11/2013 07:10

I thought a cup of tea was 50 mg? Either way I'm having up to three cups a day, sometimes 4, and sometimes substituted for a can of diet coke which has about 30-40 mg. I've had two mc too. Think I'm a bit more relaxed now that I'm (thankfully) in third trimester. Was also "off" tea for some of the pregnancy as it made me feel sick.

I have to agree decaff tea doesn't cut it (have only tried pg tips though!)

Butterytoast · 25/11/2013 07:13

Decaf Yorkshire is the only decent decaf tea

mrsksays · 25/11/2013 08:35

I drink 3 or 4 cups of proper tea over the course of the day but nothing else with caffeine in (pop or chocolate). I'm 24 weeks and my baby is measuring fine. Don't beat yourself up over it. Decaf is probably worse for you!

IDismyname · 25/11/2013 08:40

I came off caffeine about a year ago - it wasn't doing much for my IBS!

I now drink Yorkshire decaff which tastes pretty good, and looks like a proper cup of tea. Might try M&S decaff after these recommendations - their Earl Grey (proper stuff) is lovely according to DH.

TobyLerone · 25/11/2013 08:41

I'm with Bunny. It drives me insane.

I ordered a brie and bacon baguette when out for lunch with a friend the other day. She said, "are you allowed brie?"
I said, "I'm 36 years old. I'm allowed to eat whatever the hell I want!"

Re tea, I went off it in the first trimester anyway. But from about 16 weeks I've been drinking normal tea. Also eating whatever I want. And I'll be having a drink at Christmas whether the baby's born or not!

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 25/11/2013 09:22

Toby I live in France. When I discussed with my French GP what foods weren't allowed in pregnancy (like soft cheeses) she looked at me as if I was mad. She'd never heard of it. I don't know if that's the same for all of France but it makes sense to me.

TobyLerone · 25/11/2013 11:40

I said the same to DH -- they don't put nearly as many restrictions on what we are 'allowed' to eat elsewhere in Europe.

mrsksays · 25/11/2013 11:55

People avoid tea, cheese and soft boiled eggs in pregnancy and then happily take diamorphine in labour! Doesn't make sense to me.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 25/11/2013 14:21

I don't count the caffeine in chocolate! Chocolate doesn't have caffeine in it AT ALL Wink

MightilyOats · 25/11/2013 20:49

Decaf all the way for me as in pregnancy all caffeine (including chocolate!!!!) tastes like battery acid Sad

Was on the tetley last pg, but happily drinking Yorkshire this time round.

RubyGoat · 25/11/2013 20:56

Twinings Everyday Decaf is pretty good (if your local supermarket stock it) I'm not bitter, oh no
