Hi im 17weeks pregnant with my 2nd im 35 and when I was 30 I had abnormal smears which lead to me having lots of loop biopsies, im in the clear now but I saw my consultant yesterday who is sending me for a internal scan to check my cervix cause if its to damaged I could go in premature labour, if it is damaged they will stitch my cervix to make it stronger.. this is very scary and was wondering if anyone has had the same, it would be great to talk to someone xxx

Hey X,

I did have a Colposcopy and biopsy when I was 26 weeks pregnant. I was absolutely fine. I felt nothing and it was just like a slightly more invasive smear.
I don't know what having a stitch is like but I should imagine that it wouldn't be much worse. You'll be absolutely fine.. Hopefully someone will be along who has had a stitch and can put your mind at rest

X

You might want to do a search on incompetent cervix. It isnt the colposcopy thats the problem, so the response above isnt what you are looking for.

Hi X, please please don't over worry about this. It sounds like your Consultant is just being cautious. It is highly unlikely that you will have any problem. The scan is just to make sure that your Cervix has enough thickness to it. If there is any doubt then they will do a stitch (it's a minor procedure) to guard against early labour.
You are highly unlikely to have a problem though .
