Just had scan and it's a girl! But they couldn't get a picture of all four chambers of the heart so we've got to go back next Tuesday for another one.

Anyone have experience of this and all turned out fine? I'm desperately trying not to google! We saw three chambers, and she said the blood seems to be flowing normally - and baby was VERY wriggly...hoping it's just positional issue.

my friend had exactly this a fortnight ago. She has had to go back twice before the scan got a good enough picture and all is fine :)
I gather it is fairly new technology and very much dependent upon the position of the baby.
Congrats on your little girl!

sophs37 · 22/11/2013 17:04

havnt really had the same experience but when I went for my 20 week scan they spent ages trying to do all four chambers because my baby kept moving around so that is prob why they couldn't get a proper reading for u! try not to worry. congrats on baby girl! girls r lovely im not expecting my third girl xx

Arghhh, I've succumbed to google :(

we had exactly this, went back twice and was then referred onto another hosp with a better scanning machine and a proper fetal cardiologist did the scqn....all was fine. it's easy to say don't worry but sonographers/drs/consultants like to cross the i's and dot the t's IME which is a good thing....the likely hood is that it's just routine. Good luck op, I'm sure all is well....and don't google xx

Londongirl84 · 22/11/2013 17:39

We had this at our scan! Went back 2 weeks later and they could see everything. Please don't worry x

Inglori0us · 22/11/2013 17:46

I had this situation with my dd in 2012. Was sent out to "jog around the car park", have a cold drink and jump up and down. None of these worked. We went back a week later and all was fine.
STOP GOOGLING.
It'll be fine, they just need the exact right view to tick the box. Take care.

TobyLerone · 22/11/2013 18:03

I had this. It was just a positioning issue. Did the sonographer get you to jump up and down/wriggle/go for a wee to try to make the baby move into a better position? Mine just wouldn't budge.

I went back 10 days later and everything was perfectly fine.

Step away from Google and have a nice weekend!

Misty9 · 22/11/2013 18:06

Thanks all - I did have to go for a wee and jiggle about (I even did yoga downward facing dog to get her to move!) but still couldn't see fourth chamber.

Google is NOT my friend...

Postponing the pink shopping (got a ds already) until we know for sure the situation. Good to hear lots of positive endings to the same issue though :)

I've heard of this happen loads of times on various due date forums. And not yet have I heard of anyone have a bad result with their rescan! Anecdotal I know!

It is really common to be called back because something couldn't be visualised in a way they are 100% happy with. It doesn't mean anything is wrong at all, presumably because they haven't seen it properly, they're no more likely to find anything wrong now than they were before the first scan.

If they spotted an issue they would tell you. Well, all the bad scans or "borderline findings" I've had they've been pretty upfront about it if there is anything to worry about. In fact the general trend seems to be to tell people information that actually isn't worth worrying over (e.g. certain soft markers that in isolation mean nothing) rather than omit information that is a potential cause for concern.

Hope you have better luck at your next scan with baby in a better position!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 23/11/2013 00:30

I've had it happen twice. DS is 11 months and fine. I'm 33 weeks pregnant with DC2 and also told all is well

I had to have completion scans with both of them - its purely done to positioning.

The sonographer assured us at both scans that if she was in anyway concerned, she would have referred us to the consultant and we would not be waiting a further two weeks fir the completions scans, as we did

Jo1984uk · 23/11/2013 07:10

I also experienced this, went back a few days later, baby was in a different position and all was fine [smile ]

vj32 · 23/11/2013 11:35

I had to go back 2 weeks later for the heart check. Baby didn't want to be scanned at all either time. Second time though they had me laid round the other way. And of course 2 weeks means baby is a lot bigger so easier to see the detail. Don't worry too much.

Misty9 · 23/11/2013 16:51

Thanks again all; the sonographer was a bit concerned, hence the referral to fetal medicine specialists and scan asap (Tuesday was as soon as they could do it). But hopefully it's a position issue and there's nothing we can do in the meantime anyway, I know.

She's kicking away which is reassuring me :)

UPDATE:
Had the scan today and initially the consultant's somber tone did nothing to ease our worries when he was doing the intro bit - but, all is well, present and correct Grin and he got the four chamber view almost immediately. He did say that only seeing three chambers was usually a sign of something more worrying, but not in our case :)

She's obviously going to be a handful, worrying us this much already! Let the pink buying commence Grin
