Sweep today, midwife said she couldn't feel mucus plug, where did it go?

She said she could feel babies head and all was ok but I thought she said that mucus plug wasn't there??!!! Can that even happen without me knowing? It's only now I'm home that I'm thinking about it?? Was she wrong? I haven't had complete confidence in her at all times I must say..... Also are sweeps generally effective?

It could have gone in the toilet without you noticing!

Not sure about your plug, it could have come away in lots of small bits which seemed more like discharge maybe?

As for sweeps I've heard they're about 50/50 so very hit or miss. I think if you're having lots of twinges and are ready to go they can be the tipping point for getting things moving.

Good luck Hotmad fingers crossed things will get moving for you asap! Hope labour goes smoothly and you get newborn cuddles soon.

I agree with CuppaSarah they can come away in small bits over several weeks meaning you don't notice it. This is DC3 for me and I've not noticed losing my plug in either of my previous pregnancies. I had 2 sweeps with DS2 and went 10 days over. I do feel the second sweep possibly helped push me into labour but it's hard to know I was already 9 days overdue at that point so my body was very ready for labour to start. Good luck with it all I know the last weeks just seem to drag :)

Thanks guys, I'm not sure what's happening but I certainly haven't seen any discoloured discharge or even high amounts... Just the usual little straw c discharge in the knickers occasionally but it's been like that all way thru.... Hmm

My mw didn't mention my plug but at my first sweep she said I was already 1cm dilated but I'd not lost any plug at that point which I thought I would have done if cervix was already opening?!

I only started to lose the plug 5 mins before the midwife came to my house to do the 2nd sweep on Monday when she said I was 2cm dilated and fully effaced so I was feeling confident all in all the 2nd sweep might work but alas no, this baby is hanging on by its fingertips and I'm being induced tomorrow!

Hope it works for you op.

Thanks pink I hope goes well for you tomorrow! I'm 40+2 and had sweep today and midwife said she could fit finger through cervix easily which for 1st baby would be hard unless things were progressing so I hope she comes soon! I'm ready!
