I'n on Clexane and baby aspirin. I'm sure it's not too late but start taking it now, I was told to begin as soon as I got a positive pregnancy test. X

Hi Yara,
I was prescribed Clexane and aspirin for a blood clotting issue discovered after 3 mcs. I took aspirin from the day I got a positive test but had to wait for a scan to confirm the location of the pregnancy, which was done at almost 7 weeks, before I was given the clexane. I'm now 37 weeks.
Good luck!

Hi, I was on clexane last pregnancy from 16 weeks until 6 weeks post birth. This time I'm on tinzaparin (essentially the same thing) and low dose aspirin. I've been on the tinzaparin since 9 weeks (36+6 now) and aspirin since 12 weeks. I do my injections in my upper thighs and am looking forward now to stopping them....I'm very used to them but really don't like the bruising/lumps they leave!!

KatAndKit · 20/11/2013 07:16

I started at 4+2, so as soon as i got a bfp. Also due to lupus anticoagulant. On low dose aspirin too. Last pg i only started clexane at 6+4 after scan to see heartbeat and DS is absolutely fine. What does your doctor say? As soon as i found out i was pregnant i got a next day appointment so i could get a prescription straight away.

Bakingtins · 20/11/2013 07:25

I'm on clexane and like ostrich my protocol was to start after a scan confirmed the pregnancy was intrauterine, which was at 5+4. Can you speak to your doctor today about it?

JoJoH1 · 20/11/2013 07:37

hi i take clexane 40mg twice a day starting from a confirmed test i have had 7 miscarriages i have one daughter and am due tomorrow with my second dd making 9 pregnancies in total - go see your gp and get started not sure it guarantees anything but will make you feel loads better as you will be doing something positive - good luck!!

I lost my son at 38w due to lupus anticoagulant & they said aspirin & clexane in future pregnancies. I've had repeated tests since (non-pregnant & pregnant) & all negative so am on double aspirin (150mg) to be on safe side but no clexane!

I was told clexane should start when viability is confirmed after 6w scan.

I may still go on it yet as I had a LA test last week to see if it has returned mid 2nd tri.

Yes, it is to do with your weight. Most people will be on 40 but if you are over 90kg you may be started on 60.

yarab · 20/11/2013 20:44

thanks Kat
i'm only 50Kg :)

The HCG is supposed to approximately double in 48 hours, so 40 -->150 sounds fine. Fingers crossed everything continues to go well for you.

Chocolatemolehill · 21/11/2013 09:32

I was on clexane from the day of conception (it's an IVF pregnancy). At about 7 weeks it was changed to tinzaparin (for no apparent reason other than that's what the hospital pharmacy stocked at that moment).
My IVF was in Poland though and it seems that in the UK the accepted practice is different (i.e. starting clexane later, whils in Poland - even before positive test) so you should be fine. Congratulations and good luck!

thanks all :)

Most of the time I didn't have blood after injections but it does happen sometimes so don't worry. Just make sure you inject in the right place (the fatty bits :-)) and hold the fold of skin between your fingers. You are also likely to get bruising and maybe some lumps at some point - these are fairly normal.
Good luck!

yarab · 21/11/2013 17:38

I wasn't given any instructions on how to use the clexane Confused and bruised really badly after following the pack instructions and youtube videos. I spoke to other ladies on here using it and was advised

  1. Ice the area (bag of peas) before and after injecting.
  2. Stretch the skin flat and slide the needle in at 45 degrees rather than injecting straight into a pinched fold of skin.
  3. Expel the air from the syringe before injecting.

Some of that contradicts what the instructions say, but since doing that I have not had anything worse than a 2mm bruise, whereas the first few times I had massive bruises that took weeks to fade.

Bakingtins ,, thanks a million for these advices ,, i will try them :)
