Possible early labour

I have been getting pains/cramps since 12 midday, the pains have been in my lower back and lower belly. Also been feeling sick and had a headache on n off and feeling generally not myself. And diarea! The Pains haven't stopped and have got worse from when they first started but not worse since around 8ish.
I am only 36 weeks so I rang midwife and went to the labour ward to get checked out, my cervix is still closed and they didn't no what the cause of pain was. I chose to go home and continue to monitor it with codeine and paracetomol which doesn't seem to help!

Could all this be an early indication of labour or baby on its way?

yes, you could be in labour.

write down the time each cramp (contraction) start and the length of it.

if you see a pattern emerging and they come more frequently/last longer than you are very likely to be in labour.

contractions start off as dull cramps, like indigestion or period pain and will be felt more and more intensely.
the ache/pain gets worse, peaks, then eases up.
is that what you are experiencing?

Sherbet27 · 19/11/2013 00:31

Yes they do get worse then ease up, I don't seem to have any pattern though that I can recall of. And I don't feel as though they are tightening pains, just a constant lower back / belly ache that gets worse from time to time. I have been feeling very nausea

they won't feel like tightening (unlike the Braxton Hicks ones)

make sure you keep a record - even if there's no "pattern" it's useful to see what has been going on.

nausea is common, even sickness.
I'd call the hospital and explain that you think you might be in labour - as you are less than 37 weeks if baby is born soon s/he will be slightly premature and your & baby's care will be different from those of after 37 weeks or full term

please don't hesitate to go to the hospital if you want to be checked out.
take your things with you - they might admit you straight away.

call them now & good luck!

thank you for your advice but already went into hospital last night and they said i wasn't dilating and wasn't sure of why I'm in so much pain. Still got lower back and lower belly pain along with feeling sick and generally ill.

I had this at 31wks and it was my baby moving down. I went into labour a week later but didn't have the normal progression of contractions (every 5-15 min throughout) waters didn't break until I was over 8cm and needed to push at 9. Just take notice of everything, you might be in for an atypical labour. If it gets worse then back to hospital!

I had this last week, I was sure I had a kidney infection and just went to the GP. Who took one look at me and sent me to the maternity hospital. I was/am in early labour. I had to have steroid injections and stayed in for 3 days. It's my second baby and I live close to the hospital so they said if the pain gets worse to trip back in. I was only 32 weeks pregnant when I started feeling pain, I'm now 33 weeks and hoping the baby stays in as long as possible.

Take it easy and drink lots of fluids. Write down times and symptoms - have you taken your tempreture? Just to keep an eye out for an infection. Please contact your hospital if you're not sure, they truly won't mind. They'd prefer you checked rather than had a baby at home!

I am now experiencing very sharp pains down below and lots of pressure and movement, feels like the baby is gonna pop out!

Please go to the hospital!

Even for peace of mind.

Good luck!

Sherbet27 · 19/11/2013 21:25

I went to the hospital last night but cervix was closed. My BH aren't close together either. I've just been experiencing period cramps, diarrhea yesterday and a lot of pressure down below like baby is going to fall out !
Not sure wether all this is the start of something happening

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 19/11/2013 21:34

please call the MW.

BH are different from contractions.
sharp pain could be ok or not.

if you feel like baby is popping out or you want to push you really need to be in the hospital!

please don't wait!

Sherbet27 · 19/11/2013 21:41

I don't feel like I need to push I just feel like the baby is trying to push his way out if that makes sence, makes me feel like I need a wee!
I think ringing the midwife might be me over panicking

Sherbet

don't be daft, just call them, that's what they are there for!

you won't annoy them, I promise you. they need to know if there's a change so they can provide you with the best advice and care for your own and your baby's sake.

just call them or else!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 19/11/2013 22:21

I had regular pains for a whole day, followed by diarrhoea, which turned out to be a bit of a tummy bug (ds not born til a few days later, no more pains til real labour started). Could be your baby moving down, could be a bug?

If it gets worse or doesn't ease, def call them back though. Dont be afraid to bother them, that's what they're there for and you need to ensure you and baby are ok!

TwickyWoo · 19/11/2013 22:41

I'm a few days behind you and have been having the same on and off for the last couple of weeks. In fact i felt so bad last night i wasnt sure if something was happening but there is no pattern at all to what ive been experiencing.

I'm sure it is a bug or something similar but if you're still like it tomorrow and still feeling bad it might be worth just checking again just to make sure no one missed anything yesterday.

Good luck!
