leaking water??

This morning after I had a shower I was busy drying myself when all of a sudden I lost fluid down there.... it went on for a few seconds, enough for me to stop and look down and then it clicked what was happening. I went to the hospital had an examination but they said everything was fine and my waters did not break. I am 100% certain the fluids came from my vagingo and I know I didnt imagine it and i highly doubt it was wee as I had one before I got into the shower and my "pinchers" work absolutely fine.

has anyone experienced anything like this? I feel like I am going mad as I know what I saw and felt this morning. I've not had a leak since though. Hmm

How many weeks are you?

CocktailQueen · 18/11/2013 21:11

could any water have got up your vagina that was now just falling down? like when you have a bath? did you use the shower head on your bits?

Agree - how many weeks are you? This happened to me at 38 weeks with ds. I was induced.

LuckySocks13 · 18/11/2013 21:14

I've also lost some waters over the last few hours. I'm 39.2 weeks. Am waiting to see what happens! How many weeks are you ?

I had leaking waters with DD1 - I thought I was a little bit incontinent but eventually (after probably 4 or 5 days) my waters did go in a gush. The worst bit of it was leaving a wet patch on my neighbour's seat cushion when I was round there at a drinks party (on my own as well, DH was out with work). I really thought I had wee'd on their chair. I had to sit there for ages waiting and hoping it had dried before I stood up. I carried on leaking little bits - just enough to make my pants wet but not to soak my trousers.

Slight digression there - but FWIW, they told me that my waters hadn't broken when I went in after the gush but they were wrong. Fortunately, my contractions started within a few hours and so it wasn't an issue, and they did admit when I was later in the throes of active labour that my waters had gone after all and that they had been wrong.

I'm 34 weeks so still a while to go, this is my 2nd DC.

I feel like an idiot! I am so sure there was water leaking. I know its disgusting but I had a sniff and it smelled of nothing.

emsjy: had a good giggle! I completely understand what you mean. when I was at the hospital I asked the midwife and dr if I had wet myself and they couldnt really answer me.

lol I didnt use the shower head on my bits Grin , I think if I had a bath I would have thought twice about going into the hospital. it was definitely coming out the vagingo and it was definitely water of some sort.

Don't they say that the waters can replenish themselves anyway, so if it's just a slight leak it may not be a problem - but be aware that they can be wrong when they say it's not your waters, so if you're concerned at all then do go back and ask some questions, e.g. 'OK so you say it wasn't waters, but if it had been, would that be a problem? If so, why/if not, why not?' and make sure you feel happy with the answers you get.

Sunshine200 · 18/11/2013 21:48

I got checked out for this. Apparently in late pregnancy you can get loads of watery discharge and lots of people mistake it for waters leaking. 34 weeks sounds quite early though, mine was from about 38 weeks.

Pistillate · 18/11/2013 21:52

I had really reduced waters after a fall, although I had not noticed any leaking. They found that the waters were reduced on a scan, and monitored really closely for the last 4 weeks of the pg, as they said it was high risk due to baby not having enough space. However one week before due date they said the waters were within normal range again, so all was well.

Have they scanned you? In which case they will pick up any problems.

Mena1 · 19/11/2013 09:40

I have a scan in two weeks so hopefully things will be better then. fingers crossed.

I had this at 30 weeks, I went in and they examined me and said it was all fine, it must have been wee! I'm 99% sure it wasn't though, similar thing happened with DS1, they said my waters hadn't gone but I gave birth 12 hours later!

Apparently its not always easy for them to tell. I talked to the midwife about it and she said that unless the doctor sees an indication that waters have gone there's nothing else they will do but if it is waters to be worried about, it continues to run for days and days or you get a really noticeable massive gush.

CocktailQueen · 19/11/2013 10:05

Waters don't really smell of anything - maybe wear a pad for the next day or two and see if it happens again??

snapple21 · 19/11/2013 10:07

As a trainee midwife I do find waters smell - quite distinctively

Mena1 · 19/11/2013 10:09

Thats reassuring, thanks. I knew what i felt and saw wasnt nothing. The midwife tending to me wanted to keep me in for observation the dr not so much.

snapple what do they smell of? I had some leakage yesterday when I walked a bit, I'm pretty sure it wasn't urine (had just emptied bladder) and it smelled but I couldn't put my finger on what it smelt of! I don't think it was discharge as it didn't dry crusty (eugh, TMI!).

snapple21 · 19/11/2013 19:43

I think it smells a bit ... Spermy to be honest!

Shootingstarsandcomets · 19/11/2013 19:56

I had leaking waters from 25 weeks with ds1 and ended up having him at 36 weeks. Never had a gush of liquid but a slow leak. If it is your waters the main risk is infection. You should have blood taken twice a week and twice weekly ctgs to make sure an infection is caught early otherwise you may end up with a neonate in scbu. As you are 34 weeks if it is waters they may induce you as think that is what rcog guidelines state.
Agree with snapple that waters smell spermy!!
