Sick of sickness!

Hi all
I've been suffering with terrible morning sickness since 6 weeks, I'm now 12. I can't keep anything down when it's really bad, not even water. My GP put me on cyclizine on Thursday. It worked for a couple of days but isn't anymore. I've missed the last week of college and although I do the work at home, it's constantly interrupted by the need to be sick.
The GP told me I'd need to be hospitalized if it didn't improve due to dehydration. This thought terrifies me because I'm scared of needles and would need to be put on a drip.
Has anyone else had these problems and has any advice? And do you think I could be signed off college like you can with work?
Thanks!

I feel for you. If you're dehydrated then hospital is necessary unfortunately. I had that with my last pregnancy (at 30 weeks). They gave me anti sickness drugs and a drip which made me feel much better really fast. You just need to be brave!
Hope you feel better soon.

I know hospital will help me feel better but I don't want to be there alone. I've only managed a bowl of cereal today. Tried to take a paracetamol for a headache and couldn't even keep that down. It's really worrying me :(

I hated being in hospital with hyper emesis. I was miles from home, missed my daughter terribly, none of my friends with children could come visit, even my hub struggled to get to see me because he was caring for our daughter.

However, I'm not sure what would have happened to me/us had I not gone. When my IV kicked in, I could feel betterness flooding into me!! it gave the doctors chance to find the right meds for me so I was able to make it through to 41 weeks and deliver a whopper.

Let the professionals do whatever they need to for you. Honestly, it will be a blessed relief. Good luck. Xx

Thankyou, it is making me feel a bit better hearing that other women have been through it. I'll see how I go this week and then make an informed decision. It just scares me, being in hospital alone!

There's nothing strange about being scared. We aren't wired up to be in hospital. I remember with my first child I managed to just about keep going (although I had to excuse myself from clients at work to pop off for a quick vom!) but with child 2 it was much worse. They tried 3 different drugs with me - metaclopromide (sp?) helped most. Xx

Hi bootheunicorn. It reallyy sounds like you are suffering. And you do not need to. There is a hyperemesis support thread on here and the ladies on there are all lovely. If cyclizine is not working for you, you need to try for other more effective medication. And even though it is scary going into hospital for rehydration, it does help. And hopefully there they will find the right combination of meds for you.

What support do you have at home? Can you be signed off your college work? Stress makes hyperemesis worse. You need rest and support and foods you can manage.

Also have a look at Pregnancy Sickness Support. They are very helpful and have a dedicated online support forum. They also have a network of volunteers who support women going through pregnancy sickness and HG. The website is here:

Good luck

Thankyou everyone.
BungerBear, I'm going to make an appointment to get different medication tomorrow as cyclizine just aren't working. I have a great support system, I'm living at home still with my mum so she'svery supportive and my boyfriend is amazing.
I don't know about getting signed off on my college work but they are being helpful when I have to miss day's, sending me the work to do at home.
The last couple of days have been a bit better, yesterday managed to keep fluid down and today I've eaten a bit so hopefully no hospital for me!
