1st scan tomorrow. absolutely bricking it!

So i have me 12 week scan tomorrow and Im so scared. I've heard of so many lovely ladies recently having mmc and there's nothing there when they do the scan. Would i know by now if something was wrong? Also as a lady with a raised bmi Im worried about scanning difficulties. just wanted to get it off my chest and share my worries as Dh thinks Im worrying over nothing x

Regarding raised BMI, if you have too much fat on your abdomen for them to scan you properly they will just do an internal scan instead which sounds far worse than it is... It's a wand, not much thicker than a pencil, and doesn't hurt or feel uncomfortable or anything.

Regarding MMC, rest assured its actually pretty rare. I experienced one earlier this year and for me personally I had no clue anything was wrong, normal pregnancy symptoms etc, but apparently it only occurs in something like 1% of pregnancies so really not a high risk! I don't know anyone else who has had one IRL, I think you hear about it a lot on forums such as here because its natural to seek out people with similar experiences to you.

I totally relate to being nervous before the 12 week scan all three pregnancies I've been really nervous beforehand. We've been lucky and had good outcomes all 3 times. I've got a raised bmi and 2 previous pregnancies i had normal scans with no problem. This time the sonographer asked to do an internal scan which gave very clear images. The internal scan was fine so not anything to be worried about but just so your prepared if they ask. Good luck!

Hi ladies thank you for the messages. i had my scan today and all was well. saw my baby's heartbeat and watched him/her rolling around. Been given a new due date of 13th June as only measuring as being 10 weeks 4 days. Got another scan now on the 4th December as it was too early to do the downs syndrome testing x
