Pregnancy notes - carrying around...?

When it says you should keep pregnancy notes with you, does that mean everywhere?! I've been taking mine on holiday, overnight stays etc but should I be taking them to work now I'm in the third trimester? Thanks x

I think so. They call them 'handheld' however mine are huge and don't fit in my handbag so I don't carry them around, but I've spoken to other people who apparently do.

Pinkbell123 · 17/11/2013 18:04

Thanks, I'll start keeping them in my bag.

iv been thinking about taking a short summary with me, like on a business card, so anything of importance, next of kin and my hospital number etc. just for emergencies.. so people can get hold of your notes if they are needed even if its via someone else..

Bluecarrot · 17/11/2013 18:13

Never occurred to me and I'm 33 weeks. Didn't even take them on an overnight stay 2 hours drive away on fri night.

I do keep them in a bright orange bag on the coat rack though, in case I need to ask someone else to get them for me.

MurderOfGoths · 17/11/2013 18:14

In the first pregnancy I was told to take them everywhere, they've not said either way this time, but I have a large handbag so they go everywhere with me anyway.

earlgray · 17/11/2013 18:17

I kept them in my car. Always used it to get to work and it was always with me at home too. x

CrispyFB · 17/11/2013 19:02

Whoops.. forgot we were supposed to do that!! Am on DC4 and clean forgot with DC3 too. Particularly daft given I'm high risk too and will require a possibly crash EMCS should I go into labour..

TobyLerone · 17/11/2013 20:06

I'm 33 weeks and it hasn't even occurred to me. Maybe I ought to keep them in the car. It's always wherever I am.

DaleyBump · 17/11/2013 20:12

I've been taking mine everywhere but I use a backpack so they fit nicely. I'm always up at hospital anyway so I like to have them on me if I have to go at short notice.

Anothermrssmith · 17/11/2013 20:29

I keep thinking that I should start carrying them, then forgetting all about it. I have been taking them with me if I have been anywhere overnight but just going to work etc have been leaving them home, stupid really as husband works nights and if I needed them and there would be no hope of gettig them as he could sleep through a heard of elephants charging through the house!

TheUnstoppableWindmill · 17/11/2013 20:35

If there are 0 complications you don't need to panic if you suddenly need them & don't have them. I travelled up to London at 34weeks and forgot them, only to have a bleed & have to go to hospital! It meant filling in a form but nothing more and I didn't get told off! Better to have them, of course, but it never occurred to me to take them to work (though I do work near where I live and live 5 mins from hospital).

greentshirt · 17/11/2013 20:36

I dont take mine anywhere and havent taken them away either. I do keep them by the front door, but thats mainly so I dont forget them!

LittleH78 · 17/11/2013 20:41

I'm thoroughly paranoid and have taken mine everywhere since about 20 weeks...so they are now looking like they've been dropped in a puddle and/or chewed by a dog...but gives me peace of mind having them handy.

learnasyougo · 17/11/2013 20:48

If they want you to have them with you at all times, why the duck are they so massive? something A5 sized would be better, something more handbag sized. Or better yet a little card with your details electronically served on it like a nectar card, or a usb stick.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 17/11/2013 20:50

In my first pregnancy I did - even bought a bigger handbag to fit them in. Second pregnancy I didn't bother.

PrammyMammy · 17/11/2013 20:51

Mine have been in the glove compartment since my booking appt. they only come out for the mw.

HeadlessHeadmistress · 17/11/2013 21:06

Of course I don't! Well only if I go away over night.....

I can tell them anything they need to know surely? If I'm unconscious stuff like my blood group is in the blood results on the computer at the hospital.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 17/11/2013 21:12

No I don't take them with me, only to midwife appts. I don't see why really because if I did go into labour then it would certainly take several hours before baby arrived. Enough time for them to be collected. If I was to go away for a few nights then yes I would but otherwise no.

SaucyJack · 17/11/2013 21:41

I didn't bother in either of my previous two pregnancies, and I won't be in this one either.

Unless you have a specific medical condition, I really don't see why you would. There's nothing of any importance or anything that would affect a sudden labour in there otherwise.

Babysealion · 17/11/2013 22:26

I keep them in my handbag but only because it's a fairly large one anyway. I see what everyone means by them being rather large to carry on you constantly!
Mine look like they've been chewed by a dog though - sellotaped together now and everything.
I'm really forgetful so the only real reason I keep them in my handbag is because I know I'd forget to take them along to routine midwife/hospital appointments otherwise.

DoesZingBumpLookBigInThis · 17/11/2013 23:21

I keep them in the car so I don't forget them when I have an appointment.

Generally I don't carry a handbag around, coz I don't need to.
keys, phone and purse fit in my coat pocket - good enough for school runs and shopping.

I do have my maternity exemption card in my purse though, so if I was unconscious and paramedics went through my purse they would find it.

Writerwannabe83 · 17/11/2013 23:59

Mine stay in my car. I used to keep them at home but as Sods Law would have it, whilst at work one day I had a big fresh bleed and had to go straight to hospital. When they asked if I had my notes and I shook my head they gave me a little glare.... Hmm As a result there is nothing in my maternity notes that says I had the bleed, meaning I have to explain it again every time I see someone Smile
