Can I sleep on my front in early pregnancy

I'm 7 weeks along and have always slept on my front. I look like a drunk who has collapsed face down, arms and legs akimbo when i sleep.

I sleep so much better on my front. I know that once I get a bump it wont be comfortable and I'll have to learn to sleep on my side.

Sounds a bit daft but I'm a first timer and a bit concerned, am I doing the baby any harm?

Thanks! Thanks

As long as you're comfortable then its fine - your baby is still tucked into your pelvis so you're not even putting any pressure on anyway before 12 weeks :)

noblegiraffe · 17/11/2013 11:58

No, it's fine, baby is well cushioned. It will start to get uncomfortable, unfortunately. I'm a front sleeper and slept terribly when forced onto my side!

Op get yourself a wedge pillow, I'm a front sleeper but it's getting very uncomfortable so I tried the wedge and it really helps with sleeping on your side.

Thank you. I feel better now Smile xxx

I didn't with dd1 Grin . Dd2 I was more relaxed and slept in my front until 20 weeks. At that point the ungrateful little so and so would just kick and kick until I moved Wink . Enjoy it while you can I reckon. ....

second sleeping on front until too uncomfy to! baby will let you know. congrats btw.

LadyMedea · 17/11/2013 12:38

Sleep however you feel comfortable.... That's the rule I follow throughout pregnancy. I'm still occasionally waking up on my back at 37 weeks... Can't help what happens when you're unconscious!

NorthEasterlyGale · 17/11/2013 12:38

I'm 25 weeks and still sleep on my front part of the time (sort of 'recovery position' if that make sense!). It's weird, because I'm sure it was uncomfortable by now with DS1, but we do have a new bed and I'm sure the foam mattress makes a massive difference!

K8eee · 17/11/2013 13:06

Yep! Front sleeper here too! Am 22 weeks and same as previous poster, I've taken to the recovery position too. I hitch one leg up so my weight is on one hip and on the other hitched up knee

RedCountryRoads · 17/11/2013 13:16

Glad it's not just me, my husband thinks i'm really odd because i sleep face down in to the pillow as well :) Not sure how i breathe but it's so comfy.

Ooh, I'm pleased to see some other people sort of sleeping on their stomachs in later pregnancy.

I'm 25 weeks with DC2 and much more relaxed about it this time round, but was still a bit worried I might be squashing the poor baby!

curiousgeorgie · 17/11/2013 13:26

I slept on my front till about 26 weeks! (She is fine, and doesn't look at all squished Wink)

tgamble13 · 17/11/2013 14:47

where do u get a wedge?

whereisthewitch · 17/11/2013 15:21

Amazon do the wedge pillows; honestly they're great! Take a lot of weight off the bump!

schokolade · 17/11/2013 16:08

I'm 30 weeks and try to sleep on my side, but sort of roll partly onto my stomach. Can't seem to help it, and it doesn't hurt but the baby kicks if I lie too far to the front. I have a wedge pillow, bought from the same shop that sells cots etc.

Summergarden · 17/11/2013 16:52

I'm 14 weeks and a tummy sleeper too. Will carry on for as long as possible then get a wedge as I did last pregnancy, it does help.
