Flying with a 4month old

Is this nuts? My parents have kindly surprised us today with a summer holiday. Baby will be about 4 months and dd will be 4yo. My parents are coming too so they'll be plenty of help I'm just suddenly nervous about flying with such a small person to such a hot place. The flight is about 4 hours. People do this all the time right?!

We flew to Florida when our baby was 5 months. 9 hour light all together.
Twas fine, slept & bf all the way.
I took one of those neck pillow things to lie & feed him on.

Easy enough.

Sounds great - something to look forward to after those initial newborn weeks. We went away when DD was 5 months - it was a doddle compared to when she was 2.
Agree with Pp at that age you can expect to pass much of the flight feeding and sleeping.

Of course it's ok! We just had two weeks in the heat with DS2 (then four months) and his three year old brother. The baby was the easy one! He only drunk milk - and I was breastfeeding so it was really simple - and so no need to worry about what he wanted to eat, he slept in the buggy as we did things and adapted fine to a new climate. He also went at 11 weeks on a work trip with us somewhere hot and again was fine. But I find travelling with a baby pretty simple compared with when they reach the wriggly young toddler phase!

What a lovely thing for your parents to do. You'll have a brilliant time.

What is the minimum age babies have to be before they are allowed to fly? DP's brother is getting married in Canada and baby will be about 2 months old, im not sure if itll be ok or if ill even want to tbh.

I flew with ds4 when he was 7weeks? It was fine. Though breast feeding on take off was awkward as he was in a baby lap belt on my lap. It was fine though and he was an angel

I think the younger and less mobile the baby is, the easier they are on flights. My parents did a long haul flight with me and my brother when I was 4 and he was 2 months and he was absolutely fine and slept most of the way.

However when the plane stopped to refuel in Bombay my mum went to the toilet and asked my dad to hold the baby. I then managed to slip past him and get off the plane by myself! They found me on the tarmac at the bottom of the staircase having a long talk with the Air India crew as at the time I wanted to become a stewardess. It was a while before my mum forgave my dad for not spotting that I'd disappeared!
