Feeling guilty about forgetting my vitamins...

I saw my Midwife yesterday (I'm currently 21 weeks) and she asked me if I was taking vitamins. I paused because although I have some over the last few weeks I have completely forgotten to take them. It wasn't until she mentioned it that I even remembered I am supposed to take them!! I gave her a weak nod and I'm pretty sure she sensed my hesitation and proceeded to give me a mini talking to about their importance and how I MUST take them every day. Hmm I felt naughty and guilty.

I'm a bot concerned now that I may have caused some damage by not taking them as regularly as I should. Needless to say I hunted them out this morning and swallowed one as soon as I woke up!!

Am I the only one who has been a bit slack in this department...? Hmm

I hope not

Nope! I was pretty slack too.
I felt guilty but my MW said after 12 weeks they're not that important.

Your not the only one, I ran out and it took me about four weeks to actually get round to getting some more. I just completly forgot all about it! I felt the same as you, totally riddled with guilt. Don't stress about it, I'm sure we aren't the only ones!

I've had two healthy babies without the help of vitamin tablets. Women have been managing it for years. Don't worry.

I took folic acid for 12 weeks before and 12 weeks after conception, but haven't bothered with vitamins. I live in one of the richest countries in the world and have access to a good diet - I'm not going to get malnourished. I have light skin, have my skin uncovered and spend lots of time outside. I think my baby will be fine tbh!

Shellywelly1973 · 16/11/2013 16:44

When I booked in with the midwife she asked me if I was taking folic acid. Nothing else.

I've not been asked by any hcp if I take vitamins.

I take pregnacare but I eat very little meat & no fish so my diet isn't great.

Don't beat yourself up. As mentioned above plenty of people don't take them. Forgetting will not damage your baby.
