Timed Labour or ELCS

Morning everyone, just interested in hearing your thoughts or advice. I'm high risk pregnancy and under Consultant care, currently 21 weeks. I saw my Consultant yesterday, had a pretty low appointment as learnt that although baby is fine, my health is deteriorating. But anyway, she got talking about the labour and said that I will be given an epidural as soon as I go into labour as she wants me completely pain free and there will be a time limit on the labour and that if I haven't given birth in a set time they will perform an emergency CS. She did say though that as due date gets nearer, if me and hubby are anxious about the above plan then she is happy for me to opt to have an ELCS instead.

It has left me in a bit of turmoil actually. Part of me would prefer to give birth naturally, but if there's a good chance it will end in a CS then why not just cut out the middle man and go straight for that option?

Has anyone else ever been in a similar position?

As a thought perhaps it might be a good idea to google positive c section experiences, as well as elective c section vs emergency. From what I have read I would always prefer an elective c over an emergency c, but it depends if you really want to try natural or not. Do not let anyone think less of you as a mum for your choice. you need to do whats best for you and whats best for baby.

Thanks Peeapod, I can't say I have any great desire to try natural birth. The magic of pregnancy, in my eyes, is how brilliant women are at creating a growing a new life, nothing to do with how that baby eventually comes into the world. As long as the baby and mother come out of the labour in a happy and healthy state then that's what 's important in my eyes. One of my friends had an emergency CS for her first and then an ELCS for her second and I know which one she preferred. I have been watching women having CS on YouTube in order to mentally prepare myself Smile
