Is it ever acceptable to say is it twins?

Hmm, just got posted up with half the title missing...
I'm 20 weeks pg and a friend/"friend" has just said to me "you're so huge, everyone can't believe it's not twins. Are you sure you're not having twins?". To which, I could only say, well I've had three scans so yes I am pretty sure. When I suggested to her that it's really quite a rude thing to say, she was all shocked as she thought I'd be pleased (?!) She is about a month less pg than me and doesn't put on weight in pregnancy (in fairness because she's throwing up all the time), so maybe (benefit of the doubt being given here) in some strange way she's envious of my hideous bulk.
Am still fuming, evidently.

Of course its OK, its just idle pregnancy chit chat. OK, so theres been many a thread on here about how fed up we get hearing the same old crap, but its hardly 'Oh my god, look at you, I bet youre going to look like the side of a house forever' offensive is it?

polly I think the same as you. With dd I was huge and now 10 weeks with baby2 I'm sure I'm going the same way. Yeah yeah hormones prob make us women more touchy that usual BUT I would be upset when I heard the same comments. Lodas of people said to my "gosh you are huge or is it twins etc".

I have been in maternity clothes since about week 8 with this pregnancy and my friend announced in front of our friends "god are you in maternity clothes already"..! Yeah not a "nasty" comment but I already feel huge and feel self aware of being in maternity clothing already but I didn't need it pointing out..!! I would rather be in comfy clothes iykwim..!!

So yes people can be insensitive..!!!

BTW the same friend always used to comment on me having "such big boobs". She was an A cup compared to my C and dh said she's just jealous. TBH it all ended with the comments when I replied one time " yeah well at least I have something to show"..didn't seem to come back with anything else...
