Im 34 weeks tomorrow and had my whooping cough vaccine at 4pm this afternoon. I feel so so nauseous and awful right now. I didnt feel like this with my flu jab?
Has anyone else felt like this after their vaccine? Is it normal?

Thank you :)

It could just be a coincidence/bug. I don't think there's any reason your whooping cough jab should make you feel ill.

I was fine after mine. I had both together.

littlealien01 · 12/11/2013 22:37

I ended up with a day off work the day after mine, think it just pushed me to over exhaustion when i was already knackered as was fine 24 hrs later ( i was the same with the flu jab.)

my arm was really red, sore and itchy for 6 days after too.

GoMommaGo · 13/11/2013 09:23

I felt awful after my whooping cough jab. Was fine after the flu one in comparison, just a bit ropey/extra tired for next day or so but certainly felt the wc one more, arm more painful and irritated skin at injection site and felt very nauseous indeed same afternoon and following evening, the. It just went away overnight, arm took a few days to settle but paracetamol was enough to make it easier to lie down on it at night. Could all be coincidence and I am all for vaccinations but isn't impossible that a jab can make you feel a bit dodgy for a little while, just take extra care of yourself, eg keep warm, drink warm drinks, rest if poss and relax.

I felt ill the day after mine, went home from work and went to bed, much better after 24 hours.

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 13/11/2013 09:31

Wouldn't put me off having it again tho, a day of flu like symptoms far preferable to wc

Blankiefan · 13/11/2013 09:34

Yes, I felt awful for a few days after mine. I suspect I may have had something brewing anyway... Could've been a coincidence.

The good thing tho is that you've protected your baby. My DD is 18 days old and with all the visitors, I'm so aware of the germs. Feeling a bit rough for a few days feels like an easy trade off for not worrying about whopping cough now..

AFergie · 13/11/2013 09:59

Thanks everyone. The nausea subsided after 4 hours and even though I got no sleep and Im feeling really rough today I feel a bit better than yesterday! I just wanted to check I wasnt having an abnormal reaction!
Thank you !

I was sick for 3 days after mine and felt shivery and shaky but think it may have lowered my immune sytem and I caught a bug.

FizzlingFireboxes · 13/11/2013 19:30

Had mine today along with the flu jab, my arm is very sore and achy, the flu side is fine, I'm feeling a bit off and could go to bed already. I hope it doesn't last too long :(

puntasticusername · 13/11/2013 21:51

I had mine today. Feeling ok so far, will see how it goes!

jellyfl00d · 13/11/2013 21:55

I work in NHS and had my flu jab today, I have to say within 4hrs of having it I have to say I felt ropey, just feel fluey & achey, & was completely fine earlier. Hopefully I will wake up better tomorrow. I have had paracetamol, I would recommend you do the same

LittlePeaPod · 14/11/2013 17:17

I am 33 weeks. I had the whooping cough and flu vaccine this morning and now I feel awful. Sad Hoping it passes quickly. How are you feeling today Op?

AFergie · 14/11/2013 21:05

Much much better. I think it was just the few hours after where I felt incredibly nauseous. Then it lingered a bit the next day and felt a bit rotten but all gone now. Good luck ladies !

Glad you feel better and thanks for updating. At least I know it doesn't last long. As for me, still feeling really poorly. Sad

puntasticusername · 15/11/2013 14:29

I felt ok yesterday, but feel rotten today. Though that could be because of a stressful day at work yesterday, and today I'm at home with DS. Bless him, he's lovely, but he's two and does take some keeping up with!

My arm is still all stiff and sore too.

PrammyMammy · 15/11/2013 22:45

I felt horrible for a few days, I couldn't drive my head was sore and my arm was dead so I couldn't change gear easily.
The nurse told me to sit in the waiting room for 10 mins after the injection to see if I had any reactions, all was fine until I got home then boom it hit me.

Other ladies I know haven't even noticed a difference though.

BettyBi0 · 21/11/2013 18:35

I'm having some side effects too.

Straight after jab - arm sore and achey (I was expecting this)
12 hours later - feeling quite shivery, shakey and out of sorts
24 hours after jab - slight diarrhoea, nausea, still Hubert and shakey but no temperature
36 hours after jab - vomiting and nausea
48 hours after jab - still vomiting, still nauseous, still feeling generally crap

I was wondering if this was normal as the booklet from the midwife who gave me the jab only mentioned the sore arm, risk of sudden allergic reaction etc. So I consulted Dr Google and looked up the Rebevax details and the actual side effects and frequency make for grim reading!

www.medicines.org.uk/emcmobile/medicine/15256/spc

Especially see sections 4.6 and 4.8 eeek!

I was just wondering when the gastro symptoms passed for any if you that had them. --I really want to go out this weekend but I'm still nauseous and constantly yacking up small amounts.

BettyBi0 · 21/11/2013 18:37

Sorry I meant Repevax not Rebevax.... No idea what Hubert is either.... Blinkin autocorrect!

lucybrad · 22/11/2013 22:44

your more likely picked up a bug at this time of year than a jab reaction. that's the problem - when you have a jab you are looking for symptoms, which could have been there anyway - and the jab gets the blame!

lookingfoxy · 22/11/2013 23:25

I felt horrible for days after the whooping cough vaccine. I wish they coud have warned me and I would have delayed it a week so not to coincide with a holiday.

iMumToBe · 18/01/2022 10:18

I’m feeling unwell after the whooping cough vaccine too. Can’t concentrate on work at all :( surprised that they didn’t warn me!
