Awaiting the promised second trimester energy surge

Since I told people I was pregnant, everyone has been mentioning this surge of energy that you're supposed to get in Trimester 2, but there's no sign of it yet. I'm 16 weeks pregnant and thankfully stopped feeling sick a couple of weeks ago, but apart from that am feeling like crap - exhausted all the time, can't stay awake long enough to watch anything on telly, feel totally overwhelmed at the prospect of daily commute and full day at work. Every day I wake up, remember I'm pregnant and then proceed to worry about whether the baby will be ok! Am wondering if this is normal, and if there is a light at the end of the tunnel?

I'm 33 weeks and still waiting. I get a flurry every now and again and clean like crazy then go back to 'on standby' like a tv .

BatPenguin · 11/11/2013 17:29

Sorry but I'm 26 weeks and still awaiting this 'energy surge' Wink

Mim78 · 11/11/2013 17:31

I've never had or heard of the energy surge. I'm 25 weeks in second preg. I started to feel less awful at about 17 weeks this time if that helps.

greentshirt · 11/11/2013 17:33

Im waiting for it too! I felt much 'better' than I had been at about 14 weeks, which lasted about 10 days, now I just feel heavier every day!

lizziekal · 11/11/2013 17:34

18 weeks and waiting...

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 11/11/2013 17:35

Just wondered if pregnancy brain had caused me to name-change, write your post and then forget about it. 17 weeks on Wed and still can't stay awake past 8pm and so tired by normal activities. I have no energy at all! I think I remember it happening around 20 weeks last time so hoping it kicks in soon and am so grateful not to be feeling too nauseous anymore.

tgamble13 · 11/11/2013 18:23

30weeks and waiting Smile

TownhouseMummy · 11/11/2013 18:25

Last pregnancy it was 39 weeks. Lasted a week. This time, 17 weeks tomorrow. An improvement on the first trimester but not energetic by any stretch of the imagination.

ClearlyMoo · 11/11/2013 18:32

Hello! I just posted a similar thing in "overwhelmed" post above.

I sympathise with all of it!

I think it's all a lie about 2nd trimester bounciness!

Sorry to hear you're feeling as pants as me!!

highlove · 11/11/2013 18:35

23 weeks and waiting impatiently for it to show up. I'm sure it will be along any minute...

Smoolett · 11/11/2013 19:03

24 weeks and still waiting...

Writerwannabe83 · 11/11/2013 19:13

I wouldn't say I had a 'surge' but I didn't start to feel like myself and function normally until I was 16 weeks gone - prior to that I was just a wreck. I'm now just over 20 weeks and some days are definitely better than others but overall I'm feeling pretty well. However, I am off work (have been for 10 weeks) so it will interesting to see how 'energised' I feel when I return next week.... Hmm Grin

SmallBee · 12/11/2013 01:44

I had mine about 23 weeks & it left me by 30 weeks. Make the most of it if you get it! I did a few days out & tried to get a weekend away with my Husband-but he couldn't get time off of work until I was 37 weeks, so we spent most of the time in the hotel!

WhisperMen · 12/11/2013 14:34

34 weeks and still waiting. might have a nap while I wait...

Snobble · 12/11/2013 16:58

20+1 and still waiting.......... If anything i feel more downtrodden from the terrible stomach blockages. Drains all the energy from my body.

Hotmad · 12/11/2013 17:02

I'm 39 weeks and I don't think I ever had that surge, everyone told me it would happen but it never did, I think what happened is I got used to feeling like crap!! Lol. But like used to feeling tired and lethargic and all that... I was glad when the sickness went at about 16 weeks too. And yep until recently really I worried every day about baby inside me, now I have got to know her I think and got to know how pregnancy is and that everyone experiences it differently and I'm more relaxed and feel actually ok. Sometimes it's not feeling better that works but coping with how your feeling until one day you feel ok again! Just get through one day at a time and you will soon be to your final pregnancy weeks like I am. Good luck

laura0007 · 12/11/2013 18:08

28 weeks and just woken from a nap....I don't believe in an energy surge!

CrispyFB · 12/11/2013 19:12

If there is an energy surge, for me it coincides with the onset of life-limiting SPD/PGP. Which is just grand!

SiobhanLowe · 12/11/2013 20:01

17 weeks and waiting. I had more energy in the First trimester than I do now. All I want to is sleep 24/7.. I think there lying to us..

Shroomboom · 12/11/2013 20:31

29 weeks and yes you guessed it.....still waiting!

LightTripper · 13/11/2013 08:12

17 weeks and sort of waiting. Still sick as a dog in the evenings and sleeping a lot. Feeling a lot more energetic and better in the day times than I was a few weeks ago, but it's only a "surge" if you compare it to feeling absolutely crap... Maybe that's what people are talking about?! I definitely don't feel better than pre pregnancy, even at my best times of day!

FredFlintstonesSister · 13/11/2013 15:09

I'm 25+4. I stopped feeling constantly nauseous at about 16 weeks and can now stay up past 9pm most nights but that's about it! Everyone told me the second trimester would be great but I still feel exhausted! Sorry!

Hmm never mind! Everyone kept saying to me that the second trimester was great. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to not be feeling sick but otherwise am sleepy, grumpy and probably some of the other dwarves too!
