Anyone taking low dose Aspirin?

Am 21 weeks and the consultant prescribed it based on complications in my previous pg (abruption and suspected IUGR).

Basically, because he has still not managed to get hold of my notes [infuriating] he is concerned the above could have been caused by tiny blood clots in the placenta, even though I had textbook pg till 39 weeks and perfect blood pressure. So he is erring on the side of caution.

It was a bit of a surprise even though he mentioned this is NICE guidelines, I still have a niggling doubt about taking it. Forgot to ask about potential risks etc. so am now fretting.

Not sure what I'm asking TBH...

I've been taking 75mg daily.

I'm not a HCP, but have a couple of consultants in the family and the consensus seems to be that it's part of the protocol for a few different conditions and it won't harm.

My IVF clinic recommends it from egg collection (equivalent of ovualtion) onwards through pregnancy (if the IVF is successful). My previous consultant did too. I took it on each of my three cycles and when I was pregnant.

Sorry, forgot to say that obviously I'm taking them on my hospital consultant's advice.

I take 75mg soluble aspirin every day since I saw the consultant at 12 weeks as I have a high risk of pre eclampsia. I'm now 26 weeks.

I take 75mg daily plus a clexane injection to prevent placenta malfunction due to a blood clotting disorder i have which puts me at higher risk for miscarriage and iugr. Low dose aspirin is prescribed to lots of people and i do not believe any potential risks to the fetus have been identified.

Hello I'm also on low dose aspirin and alternate days I take prednisolone too because of a kidney problem I have. It's scary but if your consultant has said you can take it, then do. And don't panic :) we will all get through this with healthy pregnancies and healthy babies xxx

lizziekal · 11/11/2013 16:58

Like KatandKit I'm on 75mg of aspirin and daily clexane injections because of a clotting disorder. When I questioned my consultant about possible side effects I was told that there are no risks, only benefits x

I also have been taking 75mg asprin since around 16 weeks due to risk of clots. Now 31 weeks. Sure it's fine if consultants prescribed it.

I was prescribed low dose aspirin due to having high platelets in my blood. The platelets level has now dropped so have been allowed to stop them for now but will be prescribed more if next blood test shows an increase again. The consultant assured me that it's safe.

Also on it from 12 weeks with no problems and was assured it's safe :)

Thanks ladies, there's some comfort in knowing it is quite a common occurrence Thanks

On consultant's orders I was on 50mg daily from 10 weeks due to raised BMI, stopped on Monday at 36 weeks as baby is doing fine.
It's very safe as it only affects your blood very slightly, but that slight change is enough to give baby a better chance.

75mg a day since 16 weeks as I'm diabetic, it helps the blood flow through the placenta. It's really common for women to take it during pregnancy so don't worry too much about having to take it.
