Early scan reassurance needed

Had an early scan this morning both external and vaginal. Had some light spotting, clearing now. Scan revealed sack and yolk healthy and normal as is my womb, but they reckon too early to see baby's heartbeat. They didn't seem worried at all and I have another scan next Wednesday. They reckon I'm around five to six weeks pregnant. Anyone else experienced similar. I'm worried sick Confused

I have been there (twice and both turned out ok).

Heartbeats are not usually detected until week 8 ( though can be earlier) so don't worry about that.

I bled lots and it's so worrying. But also more common than I realised. Hope next week goes ok.

Take it easy, I know it's not supposed to make a difference but take care of yourself. Make sure you get pics, I found one of my now 8 yr old last week, of them he was in my tummy at 8 weeks. He was amazed that he really was bean shape.

You will worry because that's natural so hope the next scan comes around quickly for you.

When I had an early reassurance scan I was told not to do it until I was at least 7 weeks pregnant as it is very rare to see a heartbeat before that point.

DontCallMeDaughter · 11/11/2013 12:54

I had an early scan last week at 7 weeks exactly. The sonographer said that there should be heartbeat of at least 120 beats by 7 weeks. My DC was 150 beats which is apparently "very normal".

I had the scan because I'd had some pain and spotting and the sonographer said she couldn't see any reason for it - there were no cysts and nothing obviously wrong and as everything measured fine she said it was just one of those things.

I know its easier said that done Paula, but if they're telling you everything is as it should be, then that is a really good sign, so try not to worry!!!

6 weeks is hit an miss on whether there is a heartbeat or not.
FWIW, my 4.5 yr old was exactly as you describe just under 6 weeks. 2 weeks later he had a hearbeat.
With DS2 I pushed them back to just over 6 weeks, and he had a heartbeat then (get 6 week scans due to medical history).
Look after yourself, sounds like you should have a little baby in your arms in 35 weeks time. Congrats

Thanks so much for the messages I feel much better and it seems more normal than I thought. Just need to look after myself I've got quite a stressful job so I need to chill until next Wednesday.

I was I the EPU at 5 weeks as I had pain and they scanned me and there was a sac but no heartbeat. They said it was probably too early. I then had one at 6 weeks and there it was beating away! Had another one at 9 weeks and all was well, very strong heart and a baby shaped bean inside! I'm now 12 weeks on thurs and have my 12 week scan next weds. Absolutely worried sick that it's not actually in there but realistically it probably is! Good luck xx
