When should you be offered a sweep?

I'll be 39+3 at my midwife appointment. Should I be offered a sweep or is it only after 40 weeks? I live out in the sticks and the midwife only visits every 2 weeks so after this appointment will I need to arrange to see a midwife at another surgery or the hospital? Just want to know what I should be asking for when I go as she has a tendency to 'forget' to do things.

I was booked in for a sweep at 40+1. I was under the impression they only offer it once you're at your due date.

I think they only offer at due date unless there are medical reasons to get you moving before.

im in west london and had a sweep at 39+3 its routinely offered here from 39 weeks my baby was born at 40+2 p.s no medical reason needed here for a 39 week sweep

My MW told me they offer a sweep for the first time at 40+10.....What the heck! I'll be out of my mind in discomfort by then, I'm 35 now and getting fed up!

NHS website says 41 weeks - www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/Pages/antenatal-appointment-schedule.aspx#41

But my midwife says I'll be offered one at 40 weeks in my area.

You can always ask for one if you want one, they'll only be able to do it if your cervix is favourable anyway.

Here (south east) its 40 weeks with 1st 41 weeks with 2+ but is down to the midwife, can always ask, also its weekly appointments from 37 weeks until you have had baby

It was never mentioned to me and I went into labour naturally a couple of days after my due date.

MissHC · 10/11/2013 21:35

I had an appointment on Friday (39w). My midwife said they could offer a sweep from 40w so I booked one in for next Friday when I'll be exactly 40w.

I had a sweep at 39+5 ! I asked for it, she was a tiny bit reluctant, but done it... Didn't do anything though !! I'm now 41weeks gone Blush

Here it's 41+ or when you're on your way naturally, to speed you up.

Didn't help me much.
