Nipples. I remember this happening in my first pregnancy, I seem to get a bit of (milk?) discharge drying on my nips and they get a bit crusty in patches. I try to scrub them in the shower but they're sore and I can't do it too roughly Shock . The only thing which seems to work is picking off the crusty bits...eww sorry.

Anyone else with this issue or am I a freak of nature ?

Maybe rub something like lansinoh or pawpaw ointment on them first to soften the crusty bits up before your shower?

BlackholesAndRevelations · 08/11/2013 23:58

Oh my gosh I cringed so much at "scrubbing" nipples... Ouch!! Doesn't warm water and shower gel lathered up get it off? That's what I'd do, with very gentle hands!

I pick off the crusty bits. Gross, but less so than leaving it, and far gentler than scrubbing Shock

Tweesers!!! Be very careful not to nip your nipples! But that's what I use to take it out, Wink xx

I wipe them with a soft sponge, rub them a bit...I thought this might help toughen them up too in prep for bf?! Loads of bits of bits were rubbed out last time I did this. Much easier than picking it out by hand.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 09/11/2013 09:31

I'm pretty sure toughening them up before bf is unnecessary. Again- ouch! mine are very sensitive and despite the initial pain, when done properly (ie if you have the latch right, which took me a couple of visits to a bf counsellor) bf shouldn't hurt. Think if you're getting really crusty nipples then the suggestion if lansinoh is a very good one.

My mum when pregnant with me in the 70's was advised by her mw to toughen up her nips for bf by scrubbing them with A PUMICE STONE. eek!

This has happened to me the last few weeks. I tried cleaning gently, then scrubbing a bit. Eventually I gave up and picked it off with tweezers. Not pleasant, but then neither is having crusty nipples!

GreenGiant3 · 09/11/2013 12:58

Glad I'm not the only one who suggested tweezers 40 SmileGrin I was beginning to think I was odd Grin but it's painless and effective!
