fetal pole but no yolk sac -any ideas?

So little bit of a long story here. Went for an early scan on 18th October and they saw a gestational sac with a size of 4 weeks. Now this didn't fir with last period date (28th Aug) although my cycle is a bit mixed up since coming off dell injection at Christmas. They asked me to go back in 2 weeks (31st October) to check again.

On this 2nd scan they now saw gestational sac and yolk sac (no fetal pole) they said obviously some growth and internal changes however not as much as they expected but wanted to scan again in a week. They dated as a 5 week sac this time.

So we returned on 7th November for our 3rd scan. Here it gets strange - some gestational bbh all sac increase, although not lots, however they could now see a fetal pole of 3.8mm but with no yolk sac today.

So the way they started talking was as though there was no chance and that I will start to bleed but because there had been some change and a fetal pole grown they want to scan me again in 2 weeks to check if I get a fetal heartbeat.

I really don't know what's happening now. Any one had similar experience? Thanks all

Hi op, sorry you are going through such a difficult time. I havent been through this but couldnt read and run. So according to your last period you should be about 10 weeks pregnant but the hospital scans are saying you are about 5/6 weeks? Have they done any bloods to see how you HCG levels are progressing?

It's a really hard one but its a matter of waiting and seeing. I am keeping everything crossed that all works out.

No bloods have been taken or even suggested. I have read if they can see a fetal pole then they should date at 6 weeks and the amount of days is taken from mm of fetal pole.

I can cope with size not matching the norm as obviously some people will always be smaller or bigger than this. I s the fact yolk sac was there but now gone apparently but fetal pole is now there and wasn't before.

Thank you. It's all so confusing! Just can't seem to see anything else with same when I try to search on the internet. I know google is bad but I'm at a loss x

@vicky123uk I am currently dealing with something similar and cant find any help on the internet about this topic. Do you mind sharing the outcome of your situation? My fetal pole is measuring 5 weeks but they cant find a yolk sac.. its very odd.

Hi, just wondered how your situation has went, I found out I was pregnant 2 and half weeks ago, started bleeding and went for scan, gestational sac empty and, they did bloods over a week, with my hcg not developing as it should only by 11 percent then by 20. Instead of the Normal 60. I was to go today to get another scan to confirm miscarriage and they have now found a 6 week 5 days fetal pole with heartbeat. But no yolk sac can be found. Can't find anything anywhere on I Internet. I have to go back in 2 weeks for a repeat scan.

Hello! I am having this issue currently. Measuring correctly at 6 weeks 2 days, fetal heartbeat detected at 110 bpm. But no yolk sac found. How did it end up for you all?

Did anyone get a follow up scan? My wife and I are having the same I for from first scan. 6 week fetal pole and no yolk. The Dr. said it must be just poor image because yolk sack is needed for a fetal pole. Still anxious.

How did this turn out please? I’m in this current situation at the minute and it is very confusing. Thank you

@Leigh98 did you ever get an answer on this. I had a scan today measuring 6.2mm but no yolk sac

Everything turned out well, we are at 34 weeks now. What I was told is it’s impossible to have a fetal pole and no yolk sack. Just imaging issues.

Did anyone have anything positive happen after this situation? I’m desperate for answers. I have had bleeding but my hcgs are rising and the fetal pole is visible but no yolk sac… I’m scared

Hey love. I’m in the same situation I know a lot of women are as well. My yolk sac has disappeared but the fetal pole is now there! Very confusing. I should be 7 weeks 4 days but embryo is measuring much smaller. I have to go back in 1 week to see any growth. Also no heartbeat was detected as too small. I’m worrying but nothing I can do. Do u have any update on your situation?

Hey, I was just wondering what the outcome of your situation was? I’m in a similar position, I had a scan 2 weeks ago where they saw a yolk and now today there’s a fetal pole but no yolk sac detected. I have a follow up scan in a week to see if they can detect a heartbeat x

Hey, unfortunately I ended up having a miscarriage. I did have a scan to confirm the heartbeat and they could see faint flickering so couldn’t say 100% so they booked me back in for the following week but I miscarried during the night after the scan x
