help!!!
Sounds strange but itchy feet are keeping me awake!!! Feel like chopping them off!!

Any advice.....please xx

Call your mw, now. That's a sign of obstetric choleostasis (spelled it wrong) which is a liver condition caused by pregnancy.

Really?? Its driving me nuts!! Ill maybe call in morning if doesnt settle. Anything that helps ease it?

Seriously, call them now. They'll want to see you tonight. Nothing will ease it if it is OC I don't think and it tends to be worse at night so even if it does feel better in the morning it'll still be there.

Interesting....feel like a total hypocondriate (excuse dodgy spelling), just out of hospital on monday with bug as needed iv fluids for dehydration. Was meant to be at diabetic clinic ystday (wed) but was advised not to go as still had diarrhoea ystday.....sorry tmi.
Soooo they not going to want me rocking up to ward tonight...ill be 48 hours clear tomorrow so will call them then n see what they say.
Going to try & sleep... again. Hope you manage to get some rest

Please call them now, it could be really serious & the sooner they see you the better. Don't wait until morning to call, if they think it can wait until morning they'll tell you not to come in until then, but let them make that decision.

How are you this morning OP? Hope you called the ward. Don't worry about feeling like a hypochondriac - the midwives would rather you call and it be nothing than ignore it and there be something wrong. That's what they're there for.
I'm sure you read the link that Daley gave you, but it mentions an increased risk of stillbirth. I'm not trying to scaremonger just want you and your baby to be safe.

I had this. They did a blood test & said liver was fine, but in my recent pregnancy my mw mentioned liver problem last time... Anyway didn't have to go to hospital. Drove me nuts! I itched all over, mainly at night. Praying same thing doesn't happen this time!

Best go get blood test ASAP.

OB cholestasis is apparently almost exclusively 3rd trimester.

If you're 1st tri, it's more likely to be an increase in progesterone causing the itch.
i've been itchy as hell all over my back for 2 weeks now, i'm week 8. Gynae said nothing to worry about, just to try and cut out coffee and junk food to see if that helps- and to make sure the area is mosturised with non perfumed mosturiser. .and to avoid baths, v hot water and perfumed shower gels etc.

god it's annoying though!!!!

peanuts I posted about this two weeks ago. Insane itching, was driving me bonkers! Anyway blood tests were a little high in numbers but it wasn't cholastasis and a week later I was back within range. They flared up again last night but I'm not too concerned as I'll deliver tomorrow!
Get checked out though, to be certain. Feet in cold water and some peppermint foot cream eased symptoms a bit.

This can also be a neuropathic sensation because of the Diabetes. Good advice to get yourself checked in case it is OC or another short term complication.

I had cholestasis. It's only an emergency if your levels are dangerously high and you are close to you due date. Also it is possible to develop symptoms early in your pregnancy and can be treated with medication to help control the itch. Also the itch tends to spread if it is OC. By the time I was diagnosed my eyelids, arms, legs, feet, torso etc felt like they were on fire with itching. I went to the hospital to get Piriton and was admitted with DS being delivered the next day at 38 weeks!

I had OC last pg. I was prescribed Piriton for the itch along with vit k and the liver meds (started with a u?) Once I had these it definitely took the edge off the itch, was miserable though and was glad of the early induction.

Fingers crossed they get you comfortable for your last few weeks

I hope you are okay peanuts? I had OC diagnosed at @33 weeks and had additional monitoring for the rest of my pregnancy. Had my daughter by EMCS last week at 37weeks after going in for monitoring following a period of reduced movements. I don't want to scare you and I don't know if her passing meconium in the womb was related to the OC and her hasty arrival but if my DH hadn't insisted that I call the labour ward and get checked out instead of waiting for our check later that morning when I didn't want to feel like a hypochondriac then maybe we would have been in a much more serious situation. It all worked out well and like I say, not a scare story, but if you do have OC please be extra vigilant about baby's movements and good luck - I know how awful it is especially at night when you can't sleep for the itching.

Thanks everyone, thats me just home. Dont have cholestasis but bloods are on the rise so got some piriton & if no better this time next week ive to phone them. Midwifes also sent bloods away to another hospital to check bile salts & will phone me with result

Great news... so Piriton is allowed then? or jsut in special circumstances? i am so taking one tonite in that case... very much a special circumstance, i was tearing the back off myself last nite at 2am! OH had to apply Cocoa butter to my back at that ungodly hour- good practice for when baby arrives .. :)

Yeh chica midwife said it was fine. Ill be taking one at bedtime too & hoping to get some sleep Midwife also advised aquacool cream....think its just aqueous cream with mint but boots want £29 for a tub n pharmacist says it can be prescribed so will be asking them to prescribe it next week. Like someone said on here, ive got peppermint foot lotion that will be getting piled on tonight too

The thing about Piriton is they make you drowsy too.. happy days. Here's to a nice restful nite for us tonite!

I had a hot shower before bed last nite- a mistake i think for definite, at least according to Google- infact i might even go a full 24 hours more without another shower (gross i know) just to allow my skin some time to chill out.
I also bought a Body brush in boots today- will use it next time i shower.

My piriton is not working...thinking i woulda been more beneficial with a smartie!! Feet are itching like crazy...had them in a basin of cold water which helped but as soon as i took them out....bang itchy!!! Also have moisturised feet to no avail Not sure i can endure this for the next 8 weeks without killing someone!!
