1 in 55 risk of Downs and Chromosomal issues.

Hi all, i know that there sadly have been a few threads recently on this topic. I really hope all those affected are doing ok.

Today I got a call from the screening midwife about our risk level, which is 1 in 55.

We are going to the hospital tomorrow, late afternoon to talk about what next.

How soon after can you have amniocentisis?

How long are you in hospital for?
How long do the results take and do you get another appointment to talk about results?

Sorry, I know i'm impatient but any heads up would be really appreciated.

I don't know what exactly I was tested for beyond the main 3 but they call it a full culture so Id guess everything! I think that if you are clear for the main 3, you can honestly rest easy. Those 3 are incredibly rare. Everything else, even more so.
I do understand, we have loads of scans and every time, I get scan doom. But, I have decided that I am not going to worry any more.
Just try and enjoy yourself. You never know what's round the next corner, in pregnancy or beyond. If you had an amnio, then there will be full results in a fortnight. I think you will only hear if they find something. And don't forget this is a full genetic work up. So if you hear nothing, relax. x

thanks Doctor, i wont get any more results s the midwife told me I had just got tested for downs/ patau/ edwards so maybe your nhs trust operates different?

i really wanted a copy of my results and it took weeks, a whole load of hassle and involving the supervisor of midwives before i got a basic copy of the results letter

Just a few more weeks till your detailed scan now-i was petrified there would still b issues picked up at mine but it was over so fast with nothing noted. I had concerns of m/c and was given a reassurance scan a fw days after the amnio without begging for one. If you are at all worried about things speak to your midwive team

hope you can relax a little now- im still petrified 14weeks later! But have finally started being a bit more positive after the stress of screening (oh to have a worry free pregnancy!!)
