Smelly poo!

I don't just mean smelly like normal. I mean smelly like the gates of Hades have opened.

Smelly like all the cats and dogs come running into the bathroom then take a few sniffs then put their tails down and run.

And farts too. Poor dh was actually retching last night.

I'm 40 weeks, is this a 'thing'? I've not heard of this being a thing.

Tummy upset? I have been really susceptible to those this time round. I think diarrhoea is sometimes a sign of labour?

I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and this has been normal for me the last few weeks - so glad my ms has gone now, cos the smell would have made me be sick! I go outside to fart if I can manage it now!!! Although I farted in my sleep the other week and bf is still going on about the smell!!! (Unfortunately he was awake!!!)

I don't think it's a tummy upset. They're quite, erm, firm.

Hmm, maybe it's a hormone thing.

It really is awful though, you know when the pets are disgusted it's a problem.

It smells like an evil animal has crawled up there and died!

Lol. Sorry, I don't mean to laugh, but it is a bit funny. I've also noticed that my poos are rather whiffier than normal, but I keep being reminded that my sense of smell is stronger! In pregnancy, your digestive system slows down, which allows for greater fermentation and gas build up, which is what I think leads to the whiffy poos. Don't worry about it... It's a common thing...constipation doesn't help, so if you're constipated, make sure you eat lots of fibre to get everything shifting and if you're really worried cut down on onions and things like curry... All the best. X

P.S if you're 40 weeks, you're lucky it's only hitting you now! My DH potentially has a lot of suffering ahead of him...

highlove · 07/11/2013 08:38

Oh I have this. I like to think it's my active sense of smell but unless DH has developed that particular symptom too? It's my tummy. It's really grim.

No advice, just sympathy and shared shame.

The sense of smell doesn't help but it must be bad as dh is truly disgusted.

I'm past caring now. I dropped a bomb at the in laws yesterday (in the downstairs toilet next to the dining room on purpose) and watched them all trying not comment or wrinkle their noses. Teach them to bugger off on holiday on my due date when they promised to have the puppy.

The fermentation thing sounds very sensible. I am getting a little irregular for the first time (did a spiky, bloody poo this morning) so have eaten a tub of prunes.
