I've just had a consultant app and he did my first fundal height measurement and I'm on the 90th percentile line! Am I growing a monster?!

People have been commenting on the size of me..!Blush

I wouldn't worry, I don't think those measurements are particularly accurate (personal opinion only!).

I was told I was going to have a giant baby, was measuring on the top line, tested for gestational diabetes because baby was so massive, etc etc... He was 7lb3oz.

Likewise, my friend had to keep going for growth scans because they thought her baby was going to be small, she was 8lb10oz.

As Beela said - I don't think there is much accuracy in fundal height measurements - heard lots of stories either way! Try not to worry.

They told me that DS fundal height measurement showed he would be born between 7-8lb - imagine my surprise at 10.4 lb Grin

Best of luck x

At my last midwife app (35 weeks) she told me I was measuring small but plotted me on the 90th centile line! It's all subjective

SpottedDickandCustard · 05/11/2013 13:43

Don't worry, those measurements are wildly innaccurate anyway as it is so influenced by how baby is lying and how bump is measured.

I was measured twice on the same day by 2 different practitioners and there was a 2-3cm difference in the measurement.

And even if baby is on 90th centile that's no problem, big baby does not equal difficult birth. My 8lb DC2 gave me far more trouble than my 10lb DC1!

Thanks everyone, just having one of those wobbly days I think!

I was measuring 2 weeks ahead at my 28week consultant appointment she requested a scan and baby is big. I will be scanned again at 36weeks. Do you see your consultant again? If they are worried they should get you rescanned. Good luck Smile

Pinkbell123 · 06/11/2013 07:07

Yeah I see two sets of consultants (stupid autoimmune disease!) so will be seeing one again in a couple of weeks.

Il wait for a few weeks before worrying as there's not much between the percentiles at this stage

Iv been measuring way above the 90 th percentile but I'm overweight and I think that contributed, I had a growth scan at 28 and baby was measuring on 76th so still a little on the big side but I'm trying not to over think it, they can be way out sometimes with measurements x

twinklexx · 06/11/2013 10:02

at 24 weeks my bump was completely off the bottom of the chart, measured 3 weeks later and i am now on the 90th line. without much hange in between in bump size. i wouldn't worry at the mo (although i did when measuring small)
