flu jab

Hi,
I've been contacted by the doctor's saying I should get the flu jab. I'm keen, as I had flu a couple of years ago and it wiped me out for weeks, I wasn't back to normal for months and kept getting tonsillitis.
But I've heard some rumours/ scaremongering from other people (mostly links on facebook from dubious sources) saying it's dangerous.
Have you had it? Would you advise against?

I had it a few weeks ago. I'd rather have it than risk getting flu or baby getting flu. Flu can be really dangerous in pregnancy

I've had no problems and have felt
Completely fine just had a sore arm for a day or so

The doctors wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't safe.

The last thing you want is to have flu when your pregnant we feel crappy enough as it is lol

I had mine a couple of weeks ago - felt totally fine, no side affects at all. I personally would go for it!

I had mine on Monday. Im at a higher risk as i also have asthma so for me it was a no brainer. I think it is safer to have it than not x

It's not a live virus, so you can't get ill from it (my dad makes it!) if you get poorly, it's a nasty coincidence.
I'm all for vaccines, and I don't really see why anyone wouldn't have it. The risks to you and baby from flu are much greater.
Hope you don't get poorly this season :)

i work in a GP surgery and have it every year for last 5 years including this year and i am pregnant. my partner also paid to have one for first time ever! Some people have bad reactions but in the most part i think people are ok and the reactions are only that it makes your arm sore and possibly a bit flu like after although it does not give you the flu!

I'm not having it. Everyone I know who has had it has felt rough as rats for days afterwards. I have had flu ONCE in my whole life and I am willing to take the risk, rather than have what is essentially poison injected into me.

It's not "essentially poison"! Hahaha! It's a vaccine.
I'll get the vaccine because every year intensive care always has a pregnant woman with the flu in it. I'd rather not risk dying for the sake of getting a vaccine.

Not bad for someone who's just had 'poison' injected into them by those bastard health professionals who are constantly trying to con us into thinking they're helping keep us and our unborn babies well.

Don't listen to the scaremongering. The flu can and does kill pregnant women and young children. I had mine last month and apart from a bit of a sore arm that went away within 24 hours, I'm fine and so is baby. You can't catch the flu from it and it's most certainly not poison Hmm

I had it a few weeks ago at 38 weeks. I wouldn't wish flu on my worst enemy. It's not a live vaccine - any symptoms other than a sore arm are coincidental.

I had it 2 weeks ago. Barely felt the jab and felt absolutely fine.

I had it. It made my arm ache for a few days, but I would rather an achey arm than flu.

I also had it a couple of weeks ago. No sting, no sore arm, no side effects. I've only had flu once in my life but that was enough, even before taking pregnancy into account!

Poison?! Oh my word. Unfortunately it is a lack of knowledge and insight that can lead to complications and to medications not being used efficiently, NOT the medication itself. Glad you have decided to have the jab, and I wish you all the best with the rest of your pregnancy :)

I've had mine. Flu can make you and your unborn baby very ill. In some cases it can kill - the issue being the fever (as we know, unborn babies overheat very easily)

I had it without a second thought - rather an achey arm for a day than flu while pg & all the serious complications that can bring.

Had it with dd too & she is absolutely fine, as was I.

I've had it, and I had a small localised reaction to it, but I'd rather have a wee bit of soreness, redness and itching for a couple of days than the flu whilst pregnant! I'm also pro-vaccination, and think the risks are low especially given that this flu jab is not a live vaccine x

I'm having it this week. I've only had flu once before and it was horrific - can't imagine how awful it would be when I'm pregnant.
Had a cold a few weeks ago and it was the worst cold I've ever had, midwife told me when you're pregnant your immune system is a lot lower and its a lot harder to fight germs.

Yes, I've had it this year (when 28 weeks) and had in when pregnant with DD1. DH has had it and DD1 (now 2) has had the nasal spray.

That comment about 'poison' should be deleted. Pure ignorance and scare mongering. Most people in my office took up the offer of the vaccine last year, so over 1000 people and I certainly don't remember a sudden sickness epidemic Hmm

I had it at 12 weeks (2 weeks ago) and I think that I'm ok! I had a bit of soreness for a couple of days but no side effects. The actual jab was quick and painless. Go for it! :-)
