I am now 7 days overdue I had a sweep Monday where it was hard to reach so nothing much happened had another yesterday which was easier and had a show as she was doing it but nothing since no pain nothing she said cervix is soft so has anyone else had this and gone into labour as a result of the sweep? I know they say it can take up to 48 hours to work!!!!!!

I know it's impossible, but relax! You're only just overdue.

I had two sweeps after 41 weeks, and he arrived after the second (41+4). I think that the first one prepared the way for the second to really have an effect.

If you can, I recommend as much walking as you can manage.

You're so close! Good luck!

It's rotten being overdue, but the end is in sight.

Yy to a good walk, then a warm bubbly bath and a lie-down.

Unprotected orgasmic sex later if you can bear it - something in seminal fluid helps soften the cervix, and orgasm can help contractions along.

Cake in the meantime, and sympathy!

thank you on the plus side I just had mucus show (old brown blood sorry tmi) about 5 mins ago so really hoping this is the start of it no pains etc though just so frustrating this is dc3 and I had had both by this point x

Hurrah! No such thing as TMI on Pregnancy board Grin

My mw says DC3 are tricksy to get started but good once they get going.

Take the existing DC out for a walk. Hope it will be your last chance for a while, and might help get the contractions going.

Lots of sympathy from me. I'm only 39 and I'm desperate. I can't move or do anything!

I'm not going to suggest you do anything, nothing works if he's not ready. Apart from maybe castor oil and after hearing what that does I'd rather be bedridden a couple more weeks!

woodlandwanderwoman · 02/11/2013 14:05

Sympathy from me, I know how much it sucks. I went to 41+5 and was induced, DS was born at 42+1. I also had same experience after 4 sweeps but no labour.

The only thing I will say is that whilst I have no comparison, being induced went brilliantly for me. You have people with you from start to finish and there is no am I / aren't I in labour debates either with yourself or the delivery ward when you're trying to get in.

Good luck, the hardest work is done, not long now xx

With my 3rd pregnancy I was 8 days overdue (my 1st 2 were born on their due date), I had no symptoms before going into labour I just woke in the middle of the night with backache. Got to the hospital to be checked and 10 mins later he was born Smile.

Good luck

AbbyRue · 02/11/2013 17:15

I know how you feel!

DS - 10 days overdue
DD - 11 days overdue
DS2 - 9 days overdue

At 18 weeks with surprise DC4, I'm not holding my breath! Unless he surprises us Wink

LandsN · 02/11/2013 17:36

Well no signs of contractions as of yet still loosing plug though so maybe by the morning things might progress trying to keep busy so I am not hanging on every little niggle thing is I have to go to hospital as soon as poss as my dd was born very quick and hospital is 40 mins away and I am under a consultant so got to go by ambulance so need to know its definite before I make a move but not leave it too late aaarrrrgggghhhh it's nerve wracking lol will update soon x

Sending support. Currently 38 weeks and going insane. Went to 41 + 3 with my first. You are right, 40 weeks is plenty!

Frecklesandspecs · 03/11/2013 16:48

I'm with you lands. I'm 41 weeks Tuesday and everyday feels like a whole week in itself. I'm so fed up too x

HorryIsUpduffed · 03/11/2013 19:20

How are you doing, OP?

PMMummy · 03/11/2013 19:24

You have my utmost sympathy, two late pregnancies, both 42+++ and lots of sweeps would not budge them. At least you know the end is in sight, twice I have been the happiest woman in the delivery suite Wink

LandsN · 06/11/2013 20:39

Still with bump here had another sweep today but being induced friday night if nothing by then just hope after all this waiting the labour is not too bad :) 41+5 today x

BummyMummy77 · 07/11/2013 14:15

Ds turned 3 times last night. WHAT THE HELL?! Bad baby. :(

LandsN · 07/11/2013 20:02

I am very nervous as I have not been induced before just hoping he makes a appearance before then I keep trying to decide what position this ds is in I can never work it out I know he is engaged or was at least but feels back to back to me but midwife said yesterday he was not very confusing x

So today is the day induction tonight I am so nervous already :( just hope it's quick and uncomplicated I really do x

TheUnstoppableWindmill · 08/11/2013 09:11

Good luck. It sounds as though your body has already been gearing up for labour if you've had a show, softened cervix etc, so I'm sure it will be fine. Thanks

LandsN · 08/11/2013 09:27

Thank you I do hope so they did say the show might have been just where I had had the sweep but we will see tonight I suppose x
