Most of the fish used in this country will have been frozen first and will be fine. There is a lot of info on the web about it.

greentshirt · 31/10/2013 15:06

Yes it's fine under certain circumstances. I believe supermarket sushi is cooked anyway so not really sushi as people think of it!

99% of sushi in uk is fine. Fish needs to have been frozen at some point to kill worms/ bacteria so if your worried just ask if its been frozen. All supermarket sushi is fine. Check nhs advice if your worried

I have eaten loads with all my pregnancies. Was listening to woman's hour the other day and apparently fish is really good for babies development. Obviously bear in mind the two portions of tuna a Week rule.

fishybits · 31/10/2013 17:15

Fine. I craved it when pregnant with DD and ate it 3 or 4 times a week.

I wondered this as I recently ate at Yo Sushi, but to be on the safe side I went for vegetarian rolls and cooked items - hairy prawns etc. Yum!

It depends on where you get it from and what you pick. Anything that has been in a supermarket or shop supply chain (Tesco, Pret etc.) will be fine as it will have been frozen before arriving on shelf (thus killing worms!). Nice restaurants are actually a bit riskier, they sometimes don't want to admit their fish has been frozen (I guess they think it implies its less fresh?) and then it's a risk to eat it raw. Annoying! I have been eating there anyway but just picking things that have been cooked.... champagne, cocktails and sashimi are my top 3 things for post partum meal!!!! CANNOT WAIT!!! :-)

May take your advice and go out but eat cooked alternatives. Or veggie sushi....sigh....

See nhs website. Restaurant sushi is fine as food safety standards mean fish has to be frozen first. If making your own sushi advice is to freeze the fish first.

Friend went to Japan in first trimester. I was Shock to hear she'd eaten loads of sushi but nowBlush as nhs say its ok. Her ds is fine btw...
