Early labour or false labour?

Hi everyone! I'm just after some opinion really, I'm 39+5 with my first baby and so don't really know if what I'm experiencing is a sign he's on his way or not.

I had a MW appt on Monday, baby is engaged 4/5 and very low down (at -1 station). I had a sweep and the midwife said that although my cervix was a bit posterior she could easily 'walk it forward' and that I was 1-2 cm dilated at that point.

Since that night I've been having cramps through my lower abdomen and lower backache, but nothing that's become regular or more painful (though it does always hurt). Just a few times an hour and very uncomfortable. They seem to come on either spontaneously at night or if I stand up after sitting for a while or walk around mainly.

I've also had a fair amount of cervical mucus discharge which is new, though it's not bloody (apart from a tiny bit after the sweep).

Do you think all this is early labour, or could I still be in for the long haul? I'm so uncomfortable all the time now and really wish things would hurry up!

Any opinion advice gratefully received :-)

x

Sounds like it might be the beginnings of labour to me. Best bit of advice given to me was 'go to sleep if you think your labour is starting'. That way you Wont be too knackered later on.

Oh and good luck Grin

Thank you! I keep going to sleep thinking that and then get disappointed when I wake up and nothing's happened! Crazy Grin

Definitely you are in the first stage of labour, this can go on for several days sometimes even weeks but given that you're nearly 40weeks and have had a sweep I would think that you're baby will be here sooner rather than later. Get some rest and good luck! Xx

Thanks lumpy. Now having contractions lasting about 50 secs every 5/6 minutes. Not sure if it could stop or if should call midwife now.

I assume you are in hospital now? Let us know what happens.

CornishFirstTimer22 · 05/11/2013 07:33

Just to say it was early labour! 4cm when checked and so admitted to hospital at around 2am on the 31/10.

Baby Albie born at 14:52 pm.

He's totally gorgeous Grin
