Failed pregnancy

Was just wondering if anyone could share any information on failed pregnancy!

I had a tiny bleed a week on Monday so doctor got me a scan a week later! I am unsure of how far I may actually be but thought I was around seven weeks, I have know about my pregnancy for four weeks this Thursday.

Anyway I went for my scan today and they said they could see a sac but nothing else, there was also a slight bleed! I have to go back in two weeks for another scan as they think I am either too early or it is a failed pregnancy!
The symptoms I'm currently getting are going to the toilet a lot, tired, sickness and bad heads!

Any advice would be appreciated thank you

What date did they say you're measuring at? They should have given you an idea of what stage you appear to be at. Hopefully it will all be fine, a lot of people bleed in early pregnancy and it all progresses perfectly.

They didn't actually tell me, I was that worried I didn't even think to ask them! After I'd had my scan the women said something about the notes saying They don't think I'm that far on or it's been a failed pregnancy

Hi Carmen
I'm so sorry that it wasn't good news at your scan today. If you've been getting positive pregnancy tests for 4 weeks now it does sound very much like a failed pregnancy (also known as a blighted ovum). It happened to me a few years ago, basically a pregnancy began but for some reason (normally chromosomal problems) the embryo stops developing and is reabsorbed by the body leaving just an empty sac. The most distressing part of this is that you still can experience pregnancy symptoms as it takes a while for your BetaHCG levels to drop. Normally at 5 weeks after your last period it should be possible to see the sac and yolk sac, at 5-6 weeks there should be an embryo visible and around 6 weeks they should also see a heartbeat but it's by no means an exact science as not every one has a 28 day cycle, where you ovulate on day 14 and the embryo can implant between days 5 and 12 after the egg has been fertilized. I'm sorry that you have to wait so long for your follow up scan -I live in Italy where they did a scan after just 1 week and tracked my hormone levels for confirmation that the pregnancy wasn't viable (slow-rising hcg levels are one of the first indicators of something not being quite right). I'll keep everything crossed that your dates are off xx

I really hope everything's ok! Sick with worry!

Oh poor you. I can imagine. Could you ask your GP about getting your blood levels checked (HCG levels should double every 48 hours at this point in your pregnancy) then at least you would know if things are heading in the right direction without having to wait 2 weeks? Or maybe pay for a private scan next week?

I'm not sure, I've had four people one being a family member that they had a scan around 5 weeks and there was nothing, two weeks later there was the baby! So I've still got hope, guessing that I may be five weeks

Fingers crossed xx

Carmen I am in exactly the same boat. I had a scan on Monday at 7+3, but scan showed an empty 2.5cm sac which is more like 5 weeks. I go back this Monday for a repeat scan. Now that this has happened I've also I noticed my pregnancy symptoms (bloating and tender breasts) have lessened. I guess it's a waiting game of preparing for the worst , but hoping for the best. I'll be thinking about you x

Aw fingers crossed for you too! I still feel sick, peeing a lot and have sore breasts! But I am constantly looking out for these symptoms! It's amazing how people complain about them but in wanting them. All the best for Monday!
