Currently 10+6, had dating scan on Friday. Noticed last week I was a bit breathless when swimming however today just going up stairs set it off and hanging up washing. Is breathlessness common at this early stage???

Yes, I'm 11 weeks and the same. Also feel dizzy and faint. Read that 75% suffer from it in pregnancy. Not sure if it's true.

In my first pregnancy it was later on but that was due to anaemia.

When I had low iron levels my midwife told me that breathlessness was one of the main symptoms of it dropping to 'too low' levels. She had checked my results of my blood tests I'd most recently had and my iron levels were slightly lower, probably because I hadn't been eating properly for about a week due to bad sickness. She advised that I started amending my diet to include more iron Rich foods or at least start taking a supplement. I took both courses of action and my breathlessness improved.

It is starting to get a little bit worse again now but I'm 18wks+3 days so much more weight and blood volume for my heart to contend with so it is understandable. A lot of women do experience breathlessness but it is more in the latter stages of pregnancy due to the pressure on the heart and lungs.

Perhaps go and see your GP and see if you can have your iron levels checks - that's what my midwife told me do in the early days if my breathlessness seemed to be worsening.

Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

Thank you for replies...... Think I will keep an eye on it for a few days and give gp a ring if it worsens. First pregnancy so questioning everything

I'm 10+1 and have been short of breath for the last month. I've been told it's completely normal - no idea how some women go around jogging or horse riding while up the duff. I can barely get up the stairs.

That's reassuring thank you.

I've been pretty crap. Nearly died out running the other day (about 6+5) and couldn't breathe at all - but realised when I got back that all I'd eaten in 20hrs due to sickness was two bits of brioche Blush - that probably had more to do with it! Mind, I'm more SOB than normal in the pool too...

I'm 39 weeks pg with DC3 and I've been breathless the whole way through this pregnancy. So much so that it's affecting my speech! I didn't have it with previous pregnancies.
