I always thought that your sense of smell and taste were heightened during pregnancy. I am now 37 weeks and for the last week or so have absolutely no sense of smell or taste whatsoever( still pigging out though - out of habit rather than hunger!) Is this normal?

My sence of smell heightened ++++++ It's not a good thing either!! I hope it goes away. On the tube, people breath and yawn with their mouths open and it makes me feel ill!! Cant cope with BO or any other strong smells. Breath is the worst though!! Yuck!!

My sense of smell seemed to get more acute at the start of my pg but think it's back to normal now (35wks). Maybe you're starting a cold?

how soon can your sense of smell become heightened? can it be quite early on??

I am 4 weeks pg today, and my sense of smell has been very heightened for at least the last 5 or 6 days - in fact it was one of my first symptoms

i am in wk 37 and with relatively normal smell and taste but i do remember the early days.... my sense of smell was so hightened that i couldnt bear the smell of our kitchen cupboard!!! it made me want to throw up! i could tell if someone had opened the cupboard even from upstairs. i had to have all the items i could stomach (cupasoups and bread) moved into a separate cupboard. at one point i was convinced there was something rotting in it. i had hubby empty and repack entire cupboard (he was not amused. my nan lost her sense of smell and taste in her first pregnancy and it still has not returned. i think she enjoys food textures now (sorry, not a positive note!!)
