Wrong due date or Miscarriage

After a long time trying to get pregnant I finally thought I was 7 weeks pregnant and I've just had an internal scan after some bleeding which I had one day 2 weeks ago, (although it was very light and more like brown discharge) and again more bleeding yesterday and now after the scan. Although the sac was present there was no baby on the scan and the doctor said either the due date is wrong and I am actually only 5 weeks pregnant or I have had a miscarrage. I'm pretty certain about the date of my last period so I'm tyring to accept the fact it may be a miscarriage. I have another scan next week. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them, with the dates etc? Thanks

You poor thing, how incredibly stressful.
I had a miscarriage last November and I was shocked how awful an experience it was. I have heard of people being told they've probably had a miscarriage and the baby turned out to be fine, but my case sounds similar to yours. They said unless I was less pregnant than I thought (about 6 and a half weeks), then the sac was measuring small with no fetal pole and therefore had probably miscarried. They told me to come back in a week, but two days later I passed out a clot and to be honest I was relieved that the uncertainty was over.
Sorry not to be more positive. If you have had a miscarriage (by no means certain) it does show you can get pregnant. I got pregnant again much quicker than it had taken me with the miscarried one. Can't recommend sperm meets egg plan more highly - it's on pregnancyloss.info which is generally an excellent site.

I was sure about my dates as I was on the pill. I went for a scan when I should have been 7 +2 and there was no heart beat. 2 weks later (the most agonising 2 weeks ever) there was a heartbeat and the chap is now a year old.
hope things work out for you and you get the news you are hoping for.

i ha dthis happen through the first 3 months of my first preg...it was along time before i got a definate 'yes there is a baby'. but dont be too alarmed, you have already been told the worst case, and it may just be a spot of bleeding. i losta twin in the first preg and was told it was very common forwomen to lose one and keep the other.
good luck XXX

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Its really helpful. I hadn't told anyone I was pregnant yet other than my husband of course, so I haven't got anyone to talk to really. I guess on the positive side it has shown me I can get pregnant I was actually due to start fertility treatment at the end of this month. Thanks for the website Polly, very helpful.

No they didnt test my progesterone level, I'm due to go back next Tuesday. I didn't really have the chance to ask about that. After the scan today I was told I would speak to a doctor but the doctor I was supposed to see was not there and so a nurse spoke to me instead she seemed very confused and after consulting with another doctor just told me to come back next week for another scan. I guess I should've asked to speak to a doctor but I was too upset and just left.
