Round ligament pain

Over the past few weeks I'm been suffering with agonising RLP. It happens once every couple of days, normally when I've been sitting down for a long time. I'm 19+6.

The pain is so excruciating though. It lasts for about 30 seconds and when it is happening I can't speak and I'm scared to even breathe it is so painful. When it happened last night I was nearly crying with the pain and I felt like I was going to be sick.

I've always felt like I had a high pain threshold in the past, but the severity of this pain is starting to make me scared for labour!

Has anybody else had really severe RLP? When did it stop?

Hi Didn't want to read and not answer. I am having twind and I have got RLP - mainly when I bend over and then stretch, but not as bad as you describe. Have you spoken to your midwife about it?

Poor you Sad

I get shooting pains in my groin when walking about and they do stop me in my tracks but not as bad as you describe.

I agree with Franchini you should mention it to your midwife.

Hi, I get really bad ligament pain. I'm expecting my 7th baby in Dec. I don't remember getting it with my first 3 but definitely had with 4, 5 and 6. Sometimes it leaves me in tears and the worst times seem to be when I sneeze in bed...don't know why. Sometimes it comes out of nowhere like today when I got it driving the car!!

Hi, I had it up until about 20 weeks, and it would take my breath away for a second. Sneazes, coughs and turning in bed were pretty painful! It doesn't sound nearly as bad as you are describing though. Its probably just normal stretching, but I'd mention it to your midwife and make sure you let her know just how sever the pain is and that it is reducing you to tears.

Hi! I had terrible round ligament pain in my first pregnancy which peaked around 16 weeks and was over by 20 weeks (from memory)
It was as you describe every time I tried to walk or turn over etc , so awful. Definitely as painful as a full on contraction.
Luckily I didn't get it in subsequent pregnancies.
Hope it's over soon for you.

Thanks everyone Smile.

I phoned my midwife today and she said that its totally normal. Apparently there are varying degrees of RLP and in some people it can be really intense.

I'm going to make the best of a bad situation and practice my coping techniques every time it happens. By the time labour comes I'll be a pro Grin
