Hi everyone

I am trying at the mo

I am really excited, have stopped smoking,(YEH), but i was wondering, did you stiil drink while you were trying? I just mean a glass of wine as i'm very partial. I am not an alcaholic or anything, just like a glass and was wondering what you lot do!
Do you still have a glass till you find out?
Simple as that really

suzywong · 20/02/2004 20:25

Oh good lord yes, in fact concieved both my sons while amorous and tipsy after girls' nights out.

bossykate · 20/02/2004 20:25

yes

LadyCodworth · 20/02/2004 20:26

no and yes.

with ds3 I found out I was pg half way thru a 2 week hol.

drank for the first week then stopped blank,,,grrrr

bunny2 · 20/02/2004 20:37

I have afew till I ovulate then spend the next 2 weeks waiting to find out if I have conceived, during this time I'll have a glass or amybe 2 but no more. Well done for giving up smoking!

suzywong · 20/02/2004 20:39

Yes I second bunny2, I never got plastered and more or less cut it out on the last days of the cycle.
Well done on giving up
Wonder how Harman is doing with that.

elliott · 20/02/2004 20:40

Yes. 3 years without a drink??? I'd have to be a saint....
But then I also drink while pg and while breastfeeding (I should add that I am a pretty modest drinker at these times, 1-2 units a couple of times a week). And I did start off avoiding alcohol in the last 2 weeks of my cycle.

tillymint · 20/02/2004 20:48

Yes, every time, but in moderation. Except when I actually concieved (Four times) and I was paraletic!! More coincidence probably!

aloha · 20/02/2004 20:57

Yes.

ponygirl · 20/02/2004 20:58

Yes, Angeliz, every time. In fact, the first time, it was our first month ttc and we went out and I frankly had WAY too much and had to be poured into a taxi - didn't believe I'd conceive first time trying but did. Ds1 is now 5 and top of his class for reading and an all-round bright lad, so I'm hoping I didn't do any permanent damage! Drank, in moderation, with next too as well, so I'm sure you'll be OK. A friend asked her GP when pg with her first and he said "Are you planning to get pi**ed every night?" She said no and he said "Don't worry about it, then". So don't worry about it.

kiwisbird · 20/02/2004 21:00

yes
one gifted child, one with inexplicable genetic syndrome (but normal as can be with it)
I found there is nothing like morning sickness to put you off the booze and fags
BUT try a 6 mth craving for lager and then worry..
GRRR

prufrock · 20/02/2004 21:11

Yes during period and for the first week after, then no, unless a special occasion where I might have a couple of glasses of wine. And both times when period arrived I would make up for the disapointment of not being pregnant by getting absolutely rat-arsed!
But that's just my personal choice and I think that it doesn't actually effect the developing embryo in the first couple of weeks because the placenta isn't fully formed so nothing from your blood is getting into the embryo.

CountessDracula · 20/02/2004 21:11

Yes. Plenty

hana · 20/02/2004 21:13

another yes here - but has never been a lot, maybe a glass of wine with dinner but not every night.

lalaa · 20/02/2004 21:15

yes - god, don't put your life on hold while you wait to conceive! Stop when you find out!! You've got a whole nine months to 'enjoy' being teetotal.....

Angeliz · 20/02/2004 21:17

OOH good
Am drinking a glass of red now!,(but ironing so that's o.k)
As a few of you have said, my dd was a happy accident and i drank quite alot before i found out i was pregnant with her, but i found out quick, i sort of knew. She is very bright and articulate so it didn't harm her
Thanks everyone+

Just remembered another - a good friend of ours got pg while a student at uni at 18 - was out drinking (heavily) until she found out she was pg at 5 months. Her Ds got 4 A levels a few years ago, did Maths at Durham Uni and is now teaching English in Japan. Not so bad!

carla · 20/02/2004 21:25

Had been on a total bender with DH when dd1 was coonceived - explained my misgivings to midwife who said there would be no problems. Apart from DD1 being 'challenging', no worries - and don't put it down to that, since dd2 is the same!

sweetkitty · 20/02/2004 22:43

I'm the same I'm sorry to admit, 2 days after bubs was conceived got so drunk was carried home and woke up the next morning with hangover from hell and unexplained bruises.

Think how many of us wouldn't be here right now if it weren't for alcohol.

bobthebaby · 20/02/2004 23:43

No.

zebra · 21/02/2004 01:52

Conversation with friends, including the babydance thing, (personally I never really ttc, thus always drank as much as I felt like), how much lying back kicking legs in the air to get sperm to settle did we do, etc.
"Can't remember anything about it," said one friend, "I was legless on both occasions!"
