Here we go ladies...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BumpKitty · 07/11/2013 20:24

oh guff sorry you are suffering, I hope you are feeling better very soon.

saggy arghh the heartburn, I have been chugging back the gaviscon for months. I find the new cool one is better as it isn't quite as bad as drinking glue :) of course that one isn't on prescription though. I think anda said zantac is good and is available over the counter.

I had my 40 week appt today, baby is still completely unengaged but apparently this isn't unusual in second babies. The midwife booked me in for same time next week at which point we will be talking sweeps Shock I managed to dodge that delight last time and am hoping to do so again. Come on babies!

ChristineDaae · 07/11/2013 20:27

Oh she'll and gruff, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Hope you get better soon.
Living it sounds like you are having a terrible time, hopefully you can get in to see the GP soon and get it all sorted.
Baking - fab news!!!

GardenWorm · 07/11/2013 20:42

40wks Bump! Thanks for the unengaged info, I hadn't heard that before. I managed to avoid a sweep last time too as luckily everything kicked off on the day of the midwife appt. Hope to avoid it this time as well... a bit gah about my regular midwife doing it tbh! Hmm

IBelieveInPink · 07/11/2013 20:48

Interesting to hear opinions on sweeps. I was going to request one at my next appointment, to try and get things going! Should I not?

Where are all these thread babies?! We will be on to the next one before any decide to show their faces!

Chocolateteabag · 07/11/2013 21:06

Ooh Guff - I had D&V from Ds a couple of weeks ago - your LO will be fine, but you'll feel worse as a result. Take it easy over the next few days as it'll take you a bit longer to recover than normal.

We have DS's birthday party on Saturday - 18 kids between 1-7 in our house with assorted parents - what was I thinking! Hoping to have a bonfire and fireworks to finish so just have to manage 3-4pm party madness, then food and cake, then 30 mins or so to 5pm - then all out for fireworks "fun"

I have been trying to make cake pops today - icing them tomorrow to make a dinosaur "nest" cake - not sure if it's going to look ok or a pile of poo Grin good job I have laid foundations of my appalling cooking so no one is expecting much!

Chocolateteabag · 07/11/2013 21:10

pink - I really didn't want a sweep with Ds - I figured everything would start when it wanted to - inductions seem like trying to get a car from first to fourth without going through the gears in between. Sweeps just feel like part of all of that.

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 07/11/2013 21:33

oh i'm watching the sweep chat with interest...they've offered me one at my 40 week appointment (2 wks tmro) and i wasn't really sure whether to have it or not.

sorry about all the bugs and sickness :( nasty nasty bugs.

chocolate you're party sounds awesome (if a little tiring!) but good idea to get them all out before teatime! love the sound of the cake! mmm caaaaake!

tomorrow was going to be my 'do nothing but watch breaking bad' day but i've now discovered that i have to be at DH's aunties house for a family girly gathering - i thought it was next friday gaaaaah! bang goes my jimjams day but i suppose i will get to eat copious amounts of good cake so not all bad.

cosmickitten · 07/11/2013 21:34

Baking and kjh lovely o hear your news :-)

Guff hope you feel better soon.

I'm doing ok still bleeding but it is very light and still old brown blood, so trying very hard not too panic.

I'm now 11 weeks and my morning sickness seems to be settling down. Started at 5 weeks and by 7 weeks i was being sick about 10 -12 times a day. I'm very very grateful to drop back to 2-3 times a day.

Emki · 07/11/2013 21:44

great news baking and kjh sorry guff and saggy* you're not feeling great.

About sweeps - I had 2 with DD as she was nearly 2 weeks late - oh my goodness! What an experience!

Hope you all have good Fridays and a relaxing weekend x

Bumblebzz · 07/11/2013 22:06

Hello everyone
Good to hear all the scan news.
I had a scan at 8w this week and all was well and the lovely doctor even asked if we wanted a photo :)

Re: sweeps I had quite a few with dd and they did eff all except were a horrible sensation. Have never seen proof they work because there is no way to prove the sweep was responsible for labour starting, but have heard plenty people like me where they didn't work.
I also tried acupunture and that didn't work either!
I was under pressure not to go overdue due to gest diabetes so started sweeps, acupuncture etc at 38w.
Dd was born naturally at 40+6!!

Penguinita · 07/11/2013 22:15

Great news on the scan bakingtins! I didn't realise that some nhs trusts didn't offer nuchal translucency testing though, bummer that you have to pay.

Ooh emki, what time is your scan? Maybe we will be in there together. It seems like we have been getting our positive news at the same time for the last 11 weeks so long may it continue!

The ryanair flight turned out to be more pleasant than the airport, I was sat next to an elderly couple who shared a bag of mint humbugs all the way back, I thought it was really sweet (dappy pregnant woman hormones)Smile Janie I am totally shocked at your sick bag story though! Shock I can't believe they are such tight arsed gits! I bet they would have charged you squidillions if you had puked on the plane too. It is probably another money making scheme!

I got a little pot of gaviscon tablets for my handbag which taste ok, but the texture is horrible and they get all stuck round my teeth. The liquid is alright though.

living I'm sure withdrawing a job offer after finding out you are pg is illegal and you could probably sue them. But like you say, who would want to work for a company like that anyway.

Excitedly awaiting the next thread baby. Maybe we should have a sweepstake Grin

BumpKitty · 07/11/2013 22:28

a 'sweep' stake how appropriate!

hmmm sweeps, I have never had one so I'm not the best to advise but I would just prefer my body to do its own thing. I don't mind smear tests etc. so it would probably be ok. I have a long vagina though! (I have had several comments from nurses doing smear tests) so the mw might not be able to reach.

That's interesting janie my mw said today they aren't allowed to do a sweep until 8 days overdue.

IBelieveInPink · 07/11/2013 22:34

Bump - my midwife has already booked me for one at 40+3, and I was going to ask for one at my 38 week appointment which is actually at 39+3. May give that one a miss now though.
My midwife said 40+8 is when they will start talking about induction around here! Exciting!

GardenWorm · 07/11/2013 22:40

Sorry Bump I am lol at your 'long vagina'!!!!

That's another thing you've taught me tonight Grin

And I concur, here they won't sweep until you are a week over. Think I'd be inclined to leave it until it gets close to the 2wk let's book you in for an induction stage...

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 07/11/2013 22:48

a long vagina. are you tall?! i've ever heard of that. i'll actually be 39+6 at my 40 week appointment...i'm not even sure who does it...the doctor or the midwife? my SIL had a doctor do hers. i've also heard horror stories of their fingers not being long enough and what if they haven't trimmed their nails aaaaggghhhhh

penguin i'm glad you got home without too much nausea. i bet you were glad to hit home soil - mint humbugs mmmm. ryanair are subhuman scum.

BumpKitty · 07/11/2013 23:05

yep i'm 5ft 9 - for one of my smears they had to go and fetch the extra long speculum! Also when I had that liquid loss at 13 weeks they said my cervix was long too - this poor baby has a long journey ahead :)

It would be my midwife, she says she is working next weekend so she'd come to my house - which is just as well as I have to take DD to my appointments and she would want a full description of what was going on and why!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 07/11/2013 23:08

Crikey! Does your midwife come equipped with a miners helmet and Davey lamp? Hmm Confused Grin

BumpKitty · 08/11/2013 00:13

Good god I hope not. I hope any tunnelling will be conducted in the opposite direction!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 08/11/2013 00:31

Potholing! Just one more requirement for a career midwifery! Grin

BlackholesAndRevelations · 08/11/2013 06:44

Hi all!

Congrats on the good scans baking and bumble and anyone else I've missed!

Thanks for the sympathy and Flowers re: feeling rubbish; I've officially had the worst nights sleep ever (glares at dp, not the kids!!) and got to go to work today.... Argh!

Anyone else mad enough to be working up to 36 weeks?!

Bakingtins · 08/11/2013 07:07

guff get well soon. My 3 yr old has spent the last couple of days puking but I think it's his fluenz vacc that has made him poorly since the rest of us are ok. He was a reflux baby and is an accomplished puker!

bumble lovely scan news!

penguin honestly I'll be bloody grateful just to have got that far and it's worth the money to have the results there and then. If I get the consultant then I guess he might look at 12 weeks for me, I'm being scanned and hopefully signed off by the RMC clinic then, but the junior staff are not v good at scanning. Not that I'm complaining, if they can point out baby and HB I'm happy. Even escaped fanny-cam yesterday.

WhatWillSantaBring · 08/11/2013 07:27

blckholes I'm mad enough to be working till I'm 38 weeks Confused - I think we are both due around Christmas and I'm working till 17 Dec Sad

I had a sweep with DC1 as my waters had gone at 39+3 but labour didn't start. Definitely worked as I had my first contraction within 10 mins! I've since heard that they won't sweep if your waters have gone due to infection risk, but I'm glad they did.

Taking DC1 for the fluenz nasal spray today-really hope it doesn't make her spew !

Bodicea · 08/11/2013 08:31

Hello,
Been offline as my gorgeous baby boy decided to make an early appearance on the 3rd November.
He is the best thing in the world. So in love with him.
Was a bit of a tough labour 27hours, forceps and a third degree tear as he came out like superman. Was all worth it though as sitting here in ( on one bum cheek) breastfeeding my little munchkin :-)

Polka2 · 08/11/2013 08:43

Dashing in with a huge CONGRATULATIONS Bodicea amazing news, glad you're safely at home with your bundle (sorry about the fanjo issue tho!) enjoy every minute! Smile WineCake

ChristineDaae · 08/11/2013 08:52

Bod!!! Amazing news! How early was he? Does he have a name yet? Congratulations!
