penguin - they'll tell you at the as an, but i think most at trusts, the lab will phone you within a week if the results show you are high risk, otherwise it's 2-3 weeks for the letter if you are low risk. We told family a week after the scan, but didn't really relax till the letter came through (and even then, I was REALLY odd about telling people, because I couldn't bear their excitement)

christine don't worry (easier said than done). It's rare to get sensitised anyway, and if you do, it will NOT affect this pg, only a subsequent one if the baby is Rh+ (50% chance that they won't be). AND they can monitor and treat if it is. Besides, they will have checked your blood for anyway, so you will find out if you have become sensitised way way way before it is even a glimmer of a problem. Modern medicine is amazing- have faith in it!

On a weeks leave - I really want to put my feet up and watch shit tv read, but I have to fill the freezer with home made ready meals. Off to sainsburys for me then!

xx

Polka2 · 06/11/2013 10:40

Miss great news, the reality of it all is weird - made my DH and I quite subdued as you convince yourself not to get too excited then when things look positive you're not sure how to react!!

LuckySocks13 · 06/11/2013 11:42

Hi all. Sorry can't remember who has written what today . My head is pounding. Been back at the hospital this week as babies heart rate was high. Hopefully they seem happy she just has a high base rate though. Worrying all the same.

Blackholes - I'm also feeling quite rubbish! Am 37.4weeks now and have a 3 year old DS to entertain. He is at nursery a few hours today thankfully! I find those hours at the end of the day so so hard!

Anyone with terrible acid reflux. Had it bad a few months now but the last few hours have been something else! Am fluffing the gaviscon advance and it's just not touching it! Slept sitting in a chair half of last night!

Polka2 · 06/11/2013 13:19

Lucky glad your babys' heart beat has slowed down, it sounds like they're keeping an eye on things which is great too - rest up if you can?! You might need to get your DS some new dvd's for entertainment!

Blimey - my friends have all banged on about booking an NCT class, esp as my DH won't be around much for the first 6 months due to work, and I enquired today and there's only 1 place left on the course!!! Craziness, I thought I was being way keen/organised/tempting fate even enquirying!

Emki · 06/11/2013 14:08

Congrats #missmedusa fantastic news

penguin what date is your dating scan? We might be on the same day?

Pentagon · 06/11/2013 14:25

brilliant news miss! Congratulations!

lucky I had exactly the same thing at 37 weeks, on the first day of my maternity leave. The baby was very active during my midwife appointment and her heart rate was high. The midwife sent me to the hospital to be monitored and baby had a high base rate anyway (150-155, apparently it's higher for girls than boys) so while she was jumping around it got even higher. I hope you're not too worried, honestly it's nothing

Penguinita · 06/11/2013 16:11

Interesting about the nct class polka, I heard you had to get in there quick too (which seems crazy considering the price of them!). How many weeks are you?

emki my dating scan is 18th nov, when is yours?

I'm sitting in Dublin airport, it is stinky and noisy and busy and horrid. I think my sense of smell has gone into hyper sensitive mode and I'm not coping with being around sweaty people very well! Hope I can manage not to barf on the plane, I was ok on the way out but being ryanair there were NO sick bags! Cheapskates Shock

Polka2 · 06/11/2013 16:33

Penguin horrid sweaty people are never good at the best of times, let alone when you're penned in with them on the plane!

I'm 13wks5 but needed a course on quite specific dates due to DH's work - I was gobsmacked!

GardenWorm · 06/11/2013 17:18

Shelllll? you still with bump or was the clear out the start? X

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 06/11/2013 19:46

oooh i'm wondering about our shell as well! i wonder if her little whelk has arrived!! oooh!!!

and pink...any excitement?

my pelvis has started to get achey over the last couple of days so that has got me thinking at least there is a baby in there, won't be walking terribly far (sorry for moaning - to all who have been suffering for yonks with spd or other nasty ailments....this one is new to me). does this mean it's dropped?!?

lucky- i have had horrid acid reflux for a couple of weeks now...rennies always seem to help though. i have read good things about almonds being great for it as well. i find if i eat to much then i am a bit sick in my mouth mmmm! have to remember not to eat too much, difficult when i'm such a greedy gorb. very breathless as well, there doesn't seem to be room for baby, dinner and lungs - although since trying to eat smaller amounts this isn't as bad.

great scan news miss!

thanks all for the bottle advice...i got a microwave steriliser and a little anti colic 2 bottle pack in tescos last night - doubled up my clubcard points and got them free woohoo! go me!

christine i feel your doom...at 37+4 i am still convinced that something could go wrong.... although i'm secretly getting a bit excited now. i think it's part of the reason i'm so not nervous about the whole labour that might/could/actually will happen!

santa good luck with the cooking - i did that on monday...i don't actually want to eat the veggie chilli or spag bol or soupls that i've made but there's enough to last until xmas and probably beyond!!

penguin i feel your pain. hope the stinky irish people didn't turn your stomach too much (i'm allowed to say that being in ireland!) I had to get off a ryanair flight a couple of years back - i was coming down with a bug and asked for a sickbag as i got on..they refused to give me one until i sat down and i told them they could give me one now or i might be sick on the floor and they'd have to clean it. they still refused so when i sat down, i started to feel really nauseous and eventually just asked to get off because they wouldn't give me one! bastards.

shellsocks · 06/11/2013 20:33

Sorry for not saying much but just to let you know no baby yet Hmm Been ill with diarrhoea so feeling pretty bad. DH had to work from home to help with DS so feeling pretty useless tbh! Will really try to post when things start off Smile

Hope everyone is ok and hope to hear baby news from someone soon! Grin

GardenWorm · 06/11/2013 21:23

Oh Shell you poor lamb! sending you a big hug xxx

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 06/11/2013 21:30

aw shell you poor thing. sending you a big hug and lots of posifrickintive vibes that things will soon start for you. hope you can rest up and hope you are feeling waaaay better soon sweetie xxxx

IBelieveInPink · 06/11/2013 21:33

Nothing from me either.
Is even more likely that baby pink will come on due date, as my genius DH has booked a plasterer to come in to do some work for the 3 days covering that! Amazing.

Sorry to hear you feeling so poorly shell.

And yes to the acid! Ouchies. Had it really bad for the last week, even just bending forward slightly!! Gavisgon is my friend.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 06/11/2013 22:00

Im suffering with the hideous heartburn atm. I had a small bottle of freshly squeezed oj a while ago. It's like I swallowed lava! Sad

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 06/11/2013 22:05

Wow mr pink really has his timings sorted eh pink!!

New series of obem starting on more 4 now- what happened next

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 07/11/2013 07:49

What do you find best for heart burn gaviscon or rennie? I used rennie with the last 2 but it tastes like chalk and is didgusting. What's gaviscon like?

Pixielady83 · 07/11/2013 08:00

shell sorry to hear you're ill Sad hope you're getting lots of rest.

pink maybe Mr pink is applying the sods law approach to try and get labour going... ie creating as much inconvenience as possible! can't say I would be in the mood for workmen and mess at my due date either. Can you cancel?

saggy my sympathies, I had chronic heartburn last time Sad I used to sit with the enormous bottle of gaviscon and swig from it continously Confused no good suggestions I'm afraid although someone told me afterwards that you can get gaviscon or similar on prescription from mw, might save a small fortune if true.

Have a whole day of work to do today before finishing for wkd and am in meetings the whole morning Hmm need to start delegating some things but it just always ends up feeling more complicated and difficult to explain and ensure done ok than do it myself. Roll on the weekend.

Pixielady83 · 07/11/2013 08:01

cbeebies minty gaviscon is quite palatable. Aniseed flavour IMHO is hideous though

IBelieveInPink · 07/11/2013 08:02

I have the gavisgon tablets which are probably very similar to rennies. (I don't know I have never had rennies) However I quite like the taste now, and although it says to take 2, I usually manage with just one so feel like they work well.

IBelieveInPink · 07/11/2013 08:07

Pixie - yes mr pink is good at invoking Sod's law! Although usually unintentionally. I don't mind as the work does need doing, but it would be great if baby not here yet. Will kinda only be bothered if she comes early, which is confusing me as I now have conflicting feelings about when she should arrive! Not that she is paying any attention to what I think!!

I found that really hard at work. Especially when I did start handing things over and it all started going wrong! I found making lists, and trying to detach from things 'issue by issue' to be the easiest way. And kept all the most important things til the last minute, then handed over with the most notes ever. Have even emailed about a couple things since I've been off, bit crazy but helps the control freak in me to feel like I have done something to hand it over?!

livingzuid · 07/11/2013 08:14

Hi ladies, sorry for silence long story but firstly congratulations on all the bfps and to those patiently waiting for the new arrivals I hope they don't keep you waiting too long! I have no wise words apart from here is to 1 hour pain free labour for everyone :)

Well 10+2 today. It's been a roller coaster week. I am SO SICK in the morning I am sure my multivitamin is not staying down even though I don't let myself be sick until well after an hour after taking it. I have to take thyroid medicine at the same time and can't eat first thing or for at least half an hour after it. By which time it's a bit too late! Considering popping a folic acid pill when I get home just to be safe. Mornings and evenings is danger time for the sickness which is good as I really am not comfortable being sick at work! The only thing I can keep down are quarter pounders and pain au chocolates which is really depressing :( nice things like fruit and yoghurt don't digest and I'm craving orange Minute Maid like there is no tomorrow! So fun but I cannot complain as the symptoms being strong is still a very good sign. Sometimes when I eat now I feel like my whole lower belly is stretching and groaning at even less room down there!

As I edge towards my next appointment in two and a half weeks (hospital has still not called to move it sooner the bastards and my broken Dutch complaints fall on deaf ears) I was thinking of that scan which you have with the fluid thing. I'm hoping to have the blood tests instead as I simply freak at the thought of the other one. When are they supposed to be done at how many weeks? I think it is Maternit21 here. So I was reading up on that this morning after being awake at 5am (closing my eyes to the horror stories Google can be evil).

Well as I am on public transport today as I could not deal with traffic this is a bit long sorry! But my other piece of frustration is that I experienced my first discrimination whilst pregnant. I had an interview on Friday at a different company, got offered the job verbally on Monday and I explained my circumstances as I didn't want to take a new job under false pretences. All of a sudden she had to think and reconsider and yesterday withdrew the offer because the department couldn't cope despite my assuring that I would only take statutory minimum which is 4 months here. Which I thought was illegal to discriminate against someone just for that but there you go I don't want to work somewhere like that anyway! My current contract is due to end at the end of the year and there is possibly a post for me but I have to apply etc. The good thing out of all of this was I finally told my boss yesterday who was amazing and assured me that there was no way being pregnant will affect anything work wise and to take it easy.

Gosh that's long! Anyway I will be off for a few days again, happy vibes to you all and look forward to reading more stories :) ps still don't have the dammed maternity bra must go this weekend!

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 07/11/2013 08:25

I'm confused living 12 weeks is the right time to have a dating scan. Were you hoping for an early reassurance one?

And what scan with the fluid? You mean the nutuchal fold one and the blood tests? Or do you mean the 12 week scan?

livingzuid · 07/11/2013 08:50

The downs one. I'm aware of the dating scan at 12 weeks. I am a high risk pregnancy as I have bipolar disorder and hypothyroidism. I cannot remember if I mentioned it here in the interest of being positive so I was light on details as it's all very scary to me. I had a horrific experience at the 7 week scan where I was told I would miscarry after she said she couldn't see anything but that it was a pregnancy despite having a good six week scan. We went back the next day to do the do as I thought it was inevitable only to be told by a different gynaecologist that the scan showed a bit of growth and it was still too early and there was a very good chance of a heart beat at 8 weeks. My care in the meantime got transferred to the big university hospital here who are experienced with both my conditions as my medication also means there is a 1:2,000 chance of a heart defect. I also flat refused to go back to the last hospital who seemed totally incompetent. I haven't been seen since - no midwife, nothing. I have a ton of questions and no one to answer them. I don't have the luxury of a 'normal' pregnancy in the regard of scans and tests - although to be fair nothing is normal for anyone really! I won't be seen again until I am over 14 weeks pregnant. And that makes me feel very sick as sometimes I have very bad hallucinations at night about what might happen. It would be good to just know. But I am taking it as a positive that they do not want to see me before then :)

GardenWorm · 07/11/2013 09:30

Living that all sounds very difficult, especially as you are a higher risk and with the bipolar. Could you speak to your Dr in the mean time to get some answers and alleviate the fears? On the job front unless the law is different over there you dont need to tell them so early so I wouldn't (let's face it, no one is going to employ someone who they know won't be there for a minimum of 4 months discrimination or not - keep it a secret!)

You can get the mahoosive bottles of Gaviscon on prescription (ie free!) just ask/ring the midwife. I have the aniseed one that makes Pixie vom (well someone has to Grin) I find it works for a bit but I still wake at night and stuff cheapo supermarket indigestion tabs down my throat. Have tried propping myself up with pillows but wake with crooked neck and swollen feet. DH says my side of the bed looks like a modern art installation Smile

38wks today. Best little one stays put as still not ready and DD has gone right off the idea of 'sharing' and being a big sister. Aaaargh!

Hope everyone else is well xxx
