Still no weight gain! Should I be worried...?

I'm nearly 18 weeks pregnant but haven't put any weight on since I fell pregnant. I am really happy, but should I be worries for my babies sake? What's the normal weight gain that is 'allowed' during pregnancy?

I didn't put on any weight until 26 weeks with DD2. I gained 4 stone with DD1 and had gained about half a stone by 18 weeks, but for some reason my body reacted differently second time around and I only gained 2 stone overall with nothing until week 26. DD2 was born on time just above the 50th centile.

Most people I know were not in maternity wear yet at 18 weeks with their first baby so you sound normal to me! If you are concerned then talk to your midwife.

if you start out with any extra it's not unusual to have slow weight gain. If MW not worried then nor should you be.

I only put on about four lb total in each pregnancy. was a bit chubby but not obese before.
I was slim (slimmer than my usual state ) with a good big bump each time. Then back to chubbyish afterGrin
very weird. I ate tons and had minimal morning sickness.
currently weigh the same now as I did at forty weeks. I'm not pregnant though.

I'm 25w and 2kg under my conception weight. As no one has weighed me other than myself I have come to the conclusion no one else is really bothered!! I have a huge bump and my 20 scan was fine so I'm trying not to weigh myself anymore!!

EeyoreIsh · 18/10/2013 12:05

At 22 weeks I was still just under my conception weight. I weighed myself at the 18 week midwife appointment and I was still a few kg under. The midwife was totally not bothered.

My BMI is in the healthy range, it's just that I lost a lot in the first four months, and I haven't eaten huge portions since then.

I think they only are concerned if you were underweight to start with.

16 weeks and no weight gain with preg no 2. With preg no 1, had gained a stone by now! I'm eating quite a bit with no
Morning sickness as baby seems fine. I'm counting my lucky stars! It's lovely still being slim!!

IShallCallYouSquishy · 18/10/2013 12:13

21 weeks and only 4lb weight gain and that is purely down to eating shite. If I was eating sensibly I doubt it would even be 1lb.

Don't worry.

20 wks next week with dc3 and not gained a pound. Im not complaining or anything and not worried, just glad! I gained two stone with dc 1/2 so will be happy to do same again this time! Wouldnt worry about and just feel grateful :-)

I'm 34 weeks and have lost 4kg during this pregnancy. I haves nice healthy bump and baby is growing nicely.

I was a bit rounded before being pregnant and was convinced I'd be a blimp but seem to have lost a bit of weight from everywhere else prob from dropping the nightly glass of wine

If your fundal height is ok then don't worry. Also be guided by your mw. Everyone is different!

I am struggling to wear normal trousers and am in under bump jeans and my boobs are on the grow too Grin not knocking that at all. I think it must be to my lack of appetite and sickness

I'm 18+4 and I've only put on about 6lb. You don't "need" to eat any extra calories until the 3rd trimester and even then it's only an extra 250 which is no more than a banana and a piece of toast.

Carry on eating normally (healthily) and don't gorge just because you're "eating for two" - you will be grateful after you give birth that you didn't make it even harder to get your figure back!

K8eee · 18/10/2013 20:53

I have been slightly worried as I've lost my appetite from day 1 of being pregnant pretty much. I've lost 4lb over the past few days as I've been ill, and was concerned that as I've gone off food my baby will be under weight Blush

I am 19 weeks and my weight is similar to my weight at 10wks, I had quite a bit of sickness and even now appetite is restricted, and I have gone off chocolate, so tbh its not v surprising to me, rather hoping that once I sneeze the baby out that I will suddenly be the dress size I was before ds1 (this is dc), but fear the hunger may kick in after 20wks and I will soon be chunking it on!
