Hiya ladies

I just wondered if anyone could please reassure me a little that what I'm experiencing is normal?

I'm 12+2 and used a canestan pessary on Saturday night for thrush. I had the usual 48 hours of chalky discharge but since then my discharge has been yellowy orange. I had a midwife appt today and she did a cervical swab in case the discharge was something else. I barely felt it but since then I have been spotting dark pink/brown. Could this have been caused by the swab, and the initial discharge caused by thrush?

I haven't been reassured by my midwife who just said she didn't know but we'd find out eventually when/if my pregnancy continues! I just can't stop panicking about this pregnancy!

Oh, and it's my 12 week scan next week. Thank you for any comments xx

It could well just be that you've knocked your cervix and caused a small bleed. They recommend not inserting Canesten pessaries all the way in pregnancy.
I have had a couple of cervical swabs this pregnancy and both have resulted in brown spotting. You might have a cervical ectropian (very common) where internal womb cells grow on the next of the cervix and bleed very easily. Try not to panic (easier said than done, of course). Hopefully your spotting will ease off in a day or so and scan will show all is fine next week.

I don't know about the thrush bit, but I had a cervical swab done at about 15 weeks and it caused a bit of brown spotting. It only lasted a day or so. Turns out I have a cervical polyp that the nurse knocked when she did the swab. I hope it is all fine for you soon.

Thank you both, reassuring to know you've experienced the same thing xx

I've had spotting the whole way though which has been caused by an irritated cervix which has been caused by thrush. I've had swabs which have aggravated the spotting and each time the only thing that comes back in results is thrush. Be aware that thrush will also contaminate urine samples so make sure you give a clean, mid stream sample, otherwise it'll come back with leukocytes and then you'll have to have more tests!
