I came off the pill last December after taking it for 10 years.
All year I had cycles around 34 days although every now and then I would have a 40+ day cycle. Longest one was 48!
Best thing that worked for me was clearblue digital OPKs. I got pregnant on my 4th cycle of using them.
Started to see a pattern which was that I was getting a positive OPK around day 19 so we started having sex around day 16-17 and would have sex as much as we could up until the positive (sometimes every day... Sometimes every other day).
Then when I got a positive we would have sex that day and every day for a few days after... Basically as per SMEP (google it) but just later in the month due to longer cycles.
The month I conceived we hardly had sex at all as my husband was working away and I was doing nightshifts!
Around the time of conception we only actually had sex twice. Once on day 18 and once on day 20 which was the day I got my positive OPK.
People telling me just to have lots of sex wasn't helpful for me because DH often works away and I'm a shift worker so it's not always easy for us to have lots of sex. Also, we kind of have low-ish sex drives...
Another issue was my longer cycles and sometimes unpredictable cycles... For the first few months of the year we were having sex at the wrong time and missing ovulation completely!
So, for me, OPKs were a god send! I also kept an eye on my CM. I would notice that the week leading up to a positive OPK I would get EWCM which would increase leading up to a positive OPK and then pretty much disappear completely.
So look puff of EWCM as well!
