Growth Scan Ok But Had a Follow Up Call

Hi,

I am 35+5 and I had a growth scan last week after the midwife was concerned that baby hadn't grown and I was measuring 5cm small. After a night of worry I was reassured at the scan by the sonographer that all was ok and baby's measurements are fine and he is 5lbs. I have all thr print outs which confirmed that he is within the normal range.

However, I have had a missed called and voicemail from the hospital asking me to call them about the growth scan. When I rang back the person who made the call was not there so I have been told to ring tomorrow AM. I am just panicking now as I can't think of a reason why they would need to speak to me again. I hate this perpetual anxious feeling and just can't wait to baby is here.

Can anyone suggest a reason why the hospital are calling me? Or has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks

It could be that they needed to get hold of you to book another appointment. Quite often with growth scans they need more than one scan for proceedure. This isn't because there is a problem but because the measurement just shows the baby's size at one point in time. It doesn't say whether the baby was growth has slowed but if they did another scan in two weeks then it would be reassurance that it is a decent weight AND that it is gaining weight at a regular pace. Does that make sense?

I had growth scan with DD1 (born a healthy 7lb 3oz) and I am having them again with DC. Sonographer has always said there was nothing to worry about but the appointment always came in pairs with a 2 week interval.

I'm sure whatever it is it is nothing to worry about as they would have left a message with a colleague if they needed to.

Ok - that makes sense and if it is that I really don't mind at all as it is another chance to check in with baby before he arrives. It's just the lack of info on the voice mail and from the lady I spoke to freaks me out somewhat!

I had growth scans as well, and although he was growing at a good rate, I still had to have them every 2 weeks. My last scan was 3 days before my due date and they found that during those last 2 weeks he had only gained 3 ounces and therefore was better out than in, and I was induced the next day, which I guess shows why they continue to monitor every couple of weeks.

If it helps you not to worry I work as a HCP and NEVER give any info in an answerphone message for data protection reasons. You never know who else can listen to the message so I just leave my contact details.
